From apple BBQ to costume contests, check out these 13 fall events coming up in Onslow County
From fall festivals to apple BBQ contests, Onslow County has something for everyone to do in the upcoming months.
Although the sunshine and beach days of summer are nearing an end, that doesn't mean life has to get boring -- especially as the spooky season is on its way. Plenty of fall and winter events are being planned for Onslow County and here are 13 residents should check out from early September to late October.

Hippie Fest
Humphrey Farm will hold a Hippie Fest on Sept. 3 from 2-10 p.m.
"The name says it all," the Facebook event reads. "Get your best 70's costume ready. It's gonna be a shaggadelic good time. Yeaaaaa Baaaaby."
The event will include 70s music, a costume contest, the biggest hair contest, a 70s dance-off, a jello-eating contest and more.

9/11 Patriot Day Observance
On Friday, Sept. 9 at 8:15 a.m., a Patriot Day Observance will take place at the 9/11 Memorial Beam at the Lejeune Memorial Gardens.
"Organized by the Onslow Civic Affairs Committee," the Facebook event reads, "the observance honors and remembers victims, first responders and military members who perished as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and in the continued fight against terrorism around the world."
The observance is open to the public, will be recorded for broadcast, and available for viewing on G10TV, G10TV.org and the city of Jacksonville YouTube channel.

Family Park Day: Last Splash at the Pad
Northeast Creek Splash Pad, located at 911 Corbin Street in Jacksonville, will celebrate the end of summer with a Family Park Day before the splash pad closes. The event will take place on Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Those interested are asked to bring their bathing suits and enjoy a splash on the pad with activities, crafts, and lawn games.

Newport Community Festival
The Town of Newport will hold a community festival on Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Newport Community Park, located at 250 Howard Boulevard in Newport.
The Facebook event says the festival will feature food trucks, antique tractors, craft vendors, live entertainment, police and fire department displays, Touch-A-Truck, games, and a pre-90s classic car show.
The event is free to enter.

Fireworks Show at North Carolina Seafood Festival
The 36th annual North Carolina Seafood Festival will take place from Sept.30 to October 2 at 412 Evans Street in Morehead City.

The Facebook event encourages families to come together to the Morehead City waterfront for the perfect spot to view the show.
"Watch from the festival footprint as bursts of color shot from Sugarloaf Island light up the sky in celebration of the North Carolina Seafood Festival," the event reads.
The event is free for all.
The festival itself will include rides, live entertainment, delicious seafood, talented artisans, games, educational exhibits, and special events such as Blessing of the Fleet, Cooking with the Chef's Tent, Flounder Fling, Oyster Shucking Shoot Out, and Wine & Brine.

Not-So-Spooky Museum
Zing Zumm Children's Museum of Jacksonville is holding a Halloween experience for young children on Oct. 14 from 4-8 p.m.
A walk through the transformed museum will allow kids to meet characters who may even have treats. Admission is $5 per person for both adults and children, but $3 for museum members.
"Parents, this is NOT a scary haunted house," the Facebook event reads. "It is a friendly, fun experience for all. Children are encouraged to dress up and bring a bag for any treats collected along the way. We ask that no scary costumes are worn."

Apple Fest & BBQ Cook-Off
Humphrey Farm in Hubert will hold a BBQ Cook-Off on Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. during the 2022 Apple Fest.
The BBQ Cook-Off will require participants to use apple products; including Apple Wood, Apple Cider Vinegar, etc. The cook-off is open to all levels of cooks, whether professional, backyard, or food trucks.

Harvest Fest
Coffee Haven, located in Sneads Ferry and Jacksonville, will hold a Harvest Fest on Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will include vendors, live music, a mini pumpkin patch, and more.

Food Truck Rodeo
Onslow County Parks and Recreation will have another food truck rodeo on Oct. 16 from noon-6 p.m. at Onslow Pines Park.
Food vendors will include Hawaiian Kine Shave Ice, Funnels of Love, The BFT, Smoking Joe's BBQ, Mari's Hella Fat Food, The Cheesecake Hustle, Dirty Taco & Mas, R.L. Street Dogs, The Meat Shack, Frothy Sloth Coffee Hut, and many more.

Fall Festival at the Barn
The Rustic Barn at Half Moon, located at 135 Batting Cage Trail in Jacksonville, will hold a fall festival on Oct. 16 from 12-6 p.m.
The event will involve a vendor market, food trucks, apple cider and caramel apples, a cash bar, feed the animals opportunity, dwarf goat pen, lawn games, best Halloween costume contest, trunk or treat, and more.

2022 Onslow Oktoberfest
"Onslow Oktoberfest unites the community through food, friends, and fun to help drive essential funding for Onslow Community Outreach," the Facebook event reads. "This street festival directly benefits community members in need."
The 2022 Onslow County Oktoberfest will take place from Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. to Oct. 22 at 9 p.m. at Riverwalk Park, located at 420 Court Street in Jacksonville.
Residents can attend the event for a weekend of live entertainment, children's games, a cornhole tournament, a beer garden and local food. It has been announced that the main stage will host Steel County Express, Afreyed Knot and Circle City Rockers.

Beirut Memorial Observance
On Oct. 23 at 2 p.m., at the Lejeune Memorial Gardens, an observance will be held to honor the 39 years since the Peace Mission to Beirut Lebanon.
"We offer a solemn tribute to 273 Marines who gave the last full measure of devotion in Lebanon and Grenada on Oct. 23, 1983, in the Beirut Memorial and in the annual observance," the Facebook event reads. "The Beirut Memorial was a gift from the citizens of Onslow County to honor those men that lived among us and gave so much."

Monster Bash - Trunk or Treat
Onslow County Parks and Recreation will hold a Monster Bash at Onslow Pines Park on October 29 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Those interested can attend totrunk or treat, paint some pumpkins and participate in costume contests. Food trucks will be on site.
