Mayor Kari Leon suffered a head injury after falling off a vehicle traveling in the Happy Trails Parade on Saturday in Apple Valley Village.

After the incident, Leon was transported to Loma Linda Medical Center where doctors discovered that “she did have a brain bleed, but apparently that stopped,” Apple Valley Councilman Scott Nassif told the Daily Press on Saturday night.

Nassif added that Leon was “doing good” and was “stable,” and would probably be released on Sunday morning.

Leon was riding atop a 1950s Ford Thunderbird convertible when she slipped off as the car, traveling west on outer Highway 18, made a left onto Pawnee Road, several witnesses told the Daily Press.                                                                                                                              Paramedics riding in a vehicle in front of Leon tended to the mayor.

After the incident, the Town of Apple Valley posted on Facebook that “Kari is conscious and in good spirits and was transported to the hospital for further care. She wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.”

At Leon’s request, her Saturday night campaign fundraiser was not canceled, Nassif said.

“She asked us council members to represent her,” said Nassif, who added that those in attendance prayed for her recovery and sent her a support video.

Leon is seeking to fill the District 3 council seat in the November election.

The parade was part of the Happy Trails Parade, Street Fair and Car Show.

Following the parade, James Woody Park on Navajo and Powhattan roads featured the car show and street fair, including vendor booths, live music, food and activities for all ages.
