Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jackie Alban told the Daily Press the pedestrian killed on Tuesday was a 30-year-old female from Apple Valley. The Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has not released the name of the woman.

The pedestrian fatality is the 6th in Apple Valley since mid-October, when Apple Valley High School student and football player Lawrence Andrews, 14, was killed in a hit-and-run collision.

The Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station reported that at 6:14 pm Tuesday, deputies, American Medical Response, and the Apple Valley Fire Protection District responded to a vehicle versus a pedestrian traffic collision.

Upon arrival at the incident on Rancherias Road north of Symeron Road, deputies determined a silver Honda Accord was traveling north on Rancherias Road, passing Symeron Road.

The woman suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital, sheriff’s officials said.

The driver of the Honda Accord was uninjured and remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation.

An investigator from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team arrived and investigated.

Rancherias Road was closed between the intersections of Symeron Road and Rimrock Road East for approximately two hours while deputies processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.

On Wednesday, skid marks, scattered clothing, and car parts marked the accident scene along Rancherias Road.

Except for January, there have been pedestrian fatalities each month since October in Apple Valley.
