Apple is developing its first in-house series in the shape of a follow-up to Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

Variety reports that Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks are involved once again in executive producer capacities, just like they did for HBO's two aforementioned war shows.

This may go some way to explaining Spielberg's appearance at the Apple TV Plus launch event earlier this year.

The new series will be named after and based on Donald L Miller's book Masters of the Air, and follows the true story of the US bomber crews during World War II who took the fight to Adolf Hitler and his horde of Nazis.

Think Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, only in the sky, with less black-comedy and Nazi scalping (we assume).

Masters of the Air is being written by Band of Brothers scribe John Orloff, who's also onboard as co-executive producer.

It'll be interesting to see which performers are brought in for this one, as Band of Brothers was notable for providing a platform for many future talents including Billions star Damian Lewis, Simon Pegg, Fleabag's Andrew Scott, Dexter Fletcher, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender.

Watch this space when the Apple streaming service launches later this year.
