Applefest is this weekend in Batesville

Sep. 21—BATESVILLE — Looking for something to do this weekend? Consider heading east on I-74 to the annual Applefest in Liberty Park, 716 S. Park Avenue, Batesville.

The two-day event kicks off at 9 a.m. with something new this year: Margaret Mary Health Foundation's Suicide Prevention and Awareness 5K.

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., a Crafts & Business Expo will be open. Organizers report this year's expo will feature the largest number of vendors in the festival's history!

The Kiwanis Kitchen will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the same time frame visitors may also enjoy the Kiwanis trackless train rides and kids craft activities sponsored by Batesville Memorial Public Library.

The Eureka Band, Batesville's all-volunteer ensemble, will be entertaining those on hand from 11 a.m. to noon followed by Marisa Fullenkamp from 1 to 2 p.m.

From 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., D&B Martial Arts will be presenting various demonstrations.

From 2:30 to 4 p.m., Kids Discovery Factory's Fastest Kid in Town Races will take place.

Saturday's activities are scheduled to conclude at 6 p.m.

Sunday's festival events include more of the Crafts & Business Expo from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Kiwanis Kitchen will be serving from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the Kiwanis trackless train rides will again be offered during the same time frame, as will various Kids Discovery Factory activities.

From 11 a.m. to noon, Deno Koumoutsos will be performing, and from 11:30 a.m. to noon Miss Lizzy's Dancers will be featured on the Liberty Park pavilion stage.

The Apple Royalty Pageant will follow the dancers on the pavilion stage from 1 to 2 p.m., and this year's Applefest is scheduled to conclude at 4 p.m.

Throughout the weekend there will be Villa Orchard apples and apple desserts for sale, Strassell's mums, bounce houses, a raffle hosted by the Batesville Beautification League, and hourly split-the-pot raffles.

Applefest is a community event designed to provide plenty of family fun for everyone. It is hosted by the Batesville Kiwanis Club and sponsored by Moore Law, LLC.
