Appleton and Oshkosh to see thunderstorms with lightning and 'torrential' rain Wednesday morning

A strong thunderstorm with "torrential" rainfall, lightning strikes and possible wind speeds of up to 40 miles per hour is expected to hit Appleton by 7 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The storms were detected in a north to south line from Hartman Creek State Park in Waupaca to Redgranite at 6 a.m., the NWS said. The storms are expected to hit New London at 6:40 a.m., Oshkosh at 6:45 a.m., and Appleton, Menasha and Lake Winnebago at 7 a.m.

The NWS recommends people in these areas seek shelter and to be ready for possible flooding.

The entire area could see thunderstorms until Thursday night, as well as heat indexes in the mid-90s to 100s.
