Application period for Head Start, Early Head Start now open

LAFAYETTE, Ind. − Bauer Family Resources' programs, Head Start and Early Head Start, are now accepting applications for its participants, ages 0-5.

Each of these programs promote and provide school readiness for children at no cost to the families that qualify.

"Head Start and Early Head Start are nationally recognized early childhood programs that provide high quality services that meet the unique needs of families," a description of the programs states.

Families eligible for the program are those at or below the federal poverty guidelines. Some slots are available for those above poverty guidelines as well, according to Bauer Family Resources.

"Regardless of income level, families can qualify if they are experiencing homelessness, receive snap benefits, or are enrolling a foster child," a release said. "Head Start and Early Head Start programs are also designed to meet the needs of young children who have a diagnosed disability."

A total of 412 Head Start and Early Head Start slots are available for children in Lafayette, Monticello, Frankfort, and Delphi. There are current openings in Lafayette and Monticello and minimal waitlists in Frankfort and Delphi.

Although the 2022-2023 academic year begins Aug. 15, families may apply to the programs and enroll at any time.

“Over the last several years we have had to limit the number of children we were able to serve due to COVID precautions and staffing shortages," Kim Ryan, early care and education director, said in a release. "We are thrilled to be able to move in the direction of full enrollment.”

Bauer Family Resources also offers a Pregnant Women's program that serves women in their homes from when they are pregnant through the infant's first six weeks after birth. After six week, infants can be enrolled in center-based Early Head Start.
