Applications now open for vacant seat on Apex Town Council. Here’s how to apply.

The Apex Town Council is seeking a qualified resident to fill the vacant at-large seat left by Cheryl Stallings, who resigned to serve as a Wake County Commissioner.

Stallings was elected to the Apex Council in 2019 and is a North Carolina licensed psychologist, working as co-owner of Triangle Psychoeducational Consultants in Raleigh.

Tuesday, Stallings attended her last council meeting, where her colleagues sent her off with well wishes. Mayor Jacques Gilbert presented her with a plaque to recognize her service to Apex.

Stallings has never missed a council meeting, Gilbert said. They both began their council service at the same time.

“It’s a bittersweet moment for the Town Council and the Town of Apex,” he said at the meeting. “I’ve really enjoyed working with you. ... You’re not going far and we’re really going to be well-represented. Thank you for all your work here.”

Stallings won her election to serve District 3 as a Wake Commissioner in the November general election.

Applications for the At-Large Apex Town Council seat opened on Wednesday with a deadline of Dec. 9. Council will select the new member in January.

Apex is the second western Wake County town seeking applications for a vacant position. Cary opened its application process to fill the seat vacated by Councilwoman Ya Liu, who won her election for state House District 21.
