TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has opened its application for alligator harvest permits, including a new Alligator Super Hunt.

The annual statewide harvest program allows Floridians and non-residents to harvest up to two gators per permit from a specific alligator management unit or county. Since 1988, the program has been recognized for the sustainable use of a natural resource.

The FWC is introducing something new this year, an Alligator Super Hunt. This alternative allows the harvest of two gators from most management units and private property, with an owner’s permission.

The super hunt will run from Aug. 15 through Dec. 31. Hunters must pay a nonrefundable $5 for each application, which is open now through June 3 at 11:59 p.m. Applications can be submitted here. The FWC said 100 permits will be awarded this year.

Alligator hunting season begins on Aug. 15 and runs through Nov. 8. Applications for the Statewide Alligator Harvest Program may only be submitted once and are free of charge, but a credit card must be submitted. The FWC will award 7,356 permits via random drawings.

Here are the FWC’s 2024 application periods:

  • Phase 1: May 3 – May 13

  • Phase 2: May 17- May 27

  • Phase 3: May 31 – June 10

  • Phase 4: June 13 – until filled

Those awarded permits will be automatically charged for a trapping license and two hide validation tags. Those who already have a license will not be charged.

A hunting license is not required for those two alligator harvest opportunities, according to the FWC.
