Applications open for Del Mar College board of regents seat

The Del Mar College board of regents is looking for a new member.

Former regent Linda Villarreal announced her resignation from the board in December. Villarreal is joining Texas A&M University-Kingsville as dean of the College of Education and Human Performance.

Candidates interested in the open board seat can apply by submitting a letter of interest, resume and up to five letters of reference addressing their qualifications to the Del Mar College Office of General Counsel. Applications are due by noon Friday, Jan. 27.

The selected candidate will serve out the remainder of Villarreal's term through 2024. Villarreal was appointed to the at-large seat on the board in June 2021 after the death of regent Hector "Coach" Salinas.

To be eligible, interested candidates must be a Texas resident for at least one year, a resident of the Del Mar College District for at least six months and a registered voter. The college district includes the area covered by Calallen, Corpus Christi, Flour Bluff, Tuloso-Midway and West Oso school districts and the boundaries of the city of Corpus Christi.

The board plans to interview candidates and select and swear-in the new at-large regent during the board's regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

The chosen candidate should be prepared to participate during the meeting after being sworn in, according to Del Mar College news release.
