How to apply for the new DOLA temporary rental assistance grant

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The Department of Local Affairs rolled out a new temporary assistant grant on Thursday.

The grant will provide $30 million in temporary rental assistance to Coloradans at risk of eviction or displacement or who meet income limits and other qualifying factors.

Eligibility

Coloradans must complete a pre-application form and meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be a resident of Colorado

  • Hold a valid lease within the state of Colorado

  • Not have an income that exceeds 80% of the median income for your county

  • Be at risk of eviction due to several reasons

    • Falling behind on rental payments

    • Receiving formal demand for rent payment from the landlord

    • Lack of alternative funds to cover rental obligations

  • Have experienced a significant life event that negatively affected their ability to pay rent

Application Process

Individuals looking to receive the grant will have to first complete a pre-application, available from Feb. 15 until Feb. 20. DOLA officials encourage applicants to provide a copy of a court summons at this step, obtainable from your local court. Officials will open the pre-application process on the fifteenth of each month until grant funds run out.

Pre-applications will be selected randomly to ensure resources are distributed fairly.
