New appointments to Board of Education, Council on Postsecondary Education, pre-K council

PROVIDENCE — New members were appointed by Gov. Dan McKee to the Board of Education, the Council on Postsecondary Education, and the Council on Elementary and Secondary Education.

Caprio will fill Timothy DelGiudice’s seat on the Rhode Island Board of Education and the Council on Postsecondary Education.

Caprio’s appointment to the Board of Education received Senate advice and consent on May 24.

Marcy Reyes has been appointed to the Council on Postsecondary Education. She is an adjunct professor of finance at Rhode Island College, and founder and executive director of the Financial Literacy Youth Initiative, which brings financial literacy programming to underserved youth.

Her name has been submitted to the Senate for advice and consent.

McKee has appointed Mary Barden to the Board of Education. She replaces Marianne Monte, who recently resigned from the board.

He plans to appoint Barden to the Council on Elementary and Secondary Education, replacing Larry Purtill, who will move to the Council on Postsecondary Education.

Barden was named incoming executive director of the National Education Association Rhode Island in March. She teaches social studies at Davisville Middle School in North Kingstown.

Her name has been submitted to the Senate for advice and consent.

Members of the K-12 council and the post-secondary council also serve on the Board of Education, which is the umbrella organization.
