April Fools' Day: Frisch's teases tartar sauce ice cream (no, really), and other joke products

I scream, you scream, we all scream for … Frisch's tartar sauce ice cream? Maybe not.

For April Fools' Day this Friday, Cincinnati-based Frisch's teased a new addition to the menu: Tartar sauce ice cream, available in pints.

The love for Frisch's tartar sauce runs deep, with the restaurant even behind creating and celebrating National Tartar Sauce Day on the first Friday of Lent, and Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval proclaiming March 4 as Frisch's Big Boy Day.

Not everyone was repulsed by Frisch's joke ice cream brand. As one commenter under the Facebook video said, "If this were legit (not April Fools' Day), I’d eat it!"

Frisch's wasn't the only local or Ohio-based company to get in on the April Fools' Day fun. White Castle, which is headquartered in Columbus, announced it would be sending out complimentary seeds to fans on social media to grow their own White Castle locations.

"Now you can grow your very own Slider provider with our new, limited supply, Castle Seeds!" a tweet says.

Cincinnati beer companies make their own April Fools' Day prank beers

Not even Cincinnati's local beer scene is safe from April 1 hijinks.

Brink Brewing Co. announced three new fake beers in honor of April Fools' Day.

There's Off the Brink, a "non-hopped IPA" with "absolutely zero hop flavor, zero hop aroma, and zero bitterness to this crushable springtime stunner." There's also Boozie, a quadruple imperial milk stout at an insane 28.3% alcohol by volume processing "an octuple dose of sweet lactose and positively brimming with notes of coffee, chocolate and regretful mornings."

And lastly, Brink created Callista Flow Chart, a "mispronounced IPA" that is not only a beer, but an "automated decision-making apparatus" for beer drinkers.

Taft's Brewing Company is giving customers the opportunity to experience "next-level relaxation," with a free beer bath complimentary of any purchase over $25.

And Fifty West Brewing Company's foray into April Fools' Day comes in the form of their fry sauce, now available in the "perfect shotgunnable form" of a 16 ounce can.

A Reddit user on the r/Cincinnati page posted a series of joke "facts" about Cincinnati, including: The secret ingredient in Skyline Chili is a lock of actress Sarah Jessica Parker's hair, that Goetta was created as a morning after food to help with the effects of drinking too much bourbon and legendary singer Bootsy Collins moonlighting as Reds' mascot Mr. Redlegs.
