April Vacation: Here are family activities in the SouthCoast to enjoy.

Somehow we are already at April Vacation week, the sun is starting to make its grand appearance and the warmer weather is slinking in. Finding things to do from Monday, April 17 through Friday, April 22 to keep the kids busy can be overwhelming.

Thankfully the SouthCoast has numerous places trying to help you entertain and enjoy this school vacation week. Need some ideas for the upcoming days off? Head to a local library all have fun programs most days, learn about nature, or make some family crafts.

Make your own pizza

Need a fun lunch idea for April Vacation? Mediterranean Bar & Grill is hosting a Make Your Own Pizza event at noon, Monday, April 17 at 983 County St., Taunton. The staff will walk the children through the pizza-making process. Each participant will be provided with their own dough to create their very own pizza with up to 2 toppings. Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust - DNRT has a fun school vacation activity for you to join. They are holding a nature scavenger hunt from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18 along the trails. Suggested for ages 6 to 9 and the cost is $10 per family. You can register here. The fun begins at Paskamansett Woods, Chase Road, Dartmouth.

Want to learn all about the Civil War?

The Old Colony History Museum is holding four free sessions for ages 10 to 14 from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday,  April 18 through Friday, April 21 at 66 Church Green, Taunton. Students will learn from daily lesson plans, supplemented with items in the museum collection, hands-on activities, food, music, and more. Come for one session, or all four. Registration is required. The sessions are different each day: Tuesday: Life of a Civil War Soldier; Wednesday: Maps, Music, and Images; Thursday: Swords, Guns, Cannons, and Medicine; and Friday: The Many Faces of Abraham Lincoln. Head to the New Bedford Library for some programs

Tuesday, April 18: Discover Art at Your Library!  Kids can bring home an art activity while supplies last. Wednesday, April 19: Stop by from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and make a free Wooden Bunny Makeover craft. All supplies will be provided and it's open to all ages. Friday, April 21: Youth Services Lots of Blocks: stop in from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to build with Legos, all ages are welcome and no registration is required. New Bedford Free Public Library is located at 613 Pleasant St., New Bedford.

Tuesday, April 18: Literacy Through Laughter, an exciting approximately 45-minute interactive story time and circus show with audience volunteers emphasizing how much fun & inspirational reading can be by professional entertainers Cherie and Dave. Programs will be at 10: 30 a.m. at North Branch and 2 p.m. at Southworth. No registration is required. Wednesday, April 19: That's a Wrap: Bubble Wrap Painting Craft, find out what happens when you use bubble wrap and paint to make pictures. Registration required. Call or stop by the Children's Room at Southworth to register. Thursday, April 20: The Lloyd Center presents...Koko the Owl, in this fun and informative program, the children will have the opportunity to meet and learn about the Lloyd Center’s resident Eastern screech owl, Koko, and do a fun owl-themed craft. Registration required. Call or stop by the Children's Room at Southworth to register. All week: 3D Floating Beaver Craft, this unique craft kit is a great activity to do as part of a lesson about mammals and their habitats. Kids will have a blast assembling this adorable animal and then watching it float on water at home. This take-home craft is available in the Children's Room while supplies last. Wednesday, April 19: Meet Mario! Mario will visit the library from 11 a.m. to noon to greet fans and pose for photos. Don't miss this special event; Family LEGO Night Super Challenge at 6 p.m. The SUPER challenge this night will be to construct the tallest tower using LEGOS!  Whoever has the tallest tower standing by the end of the hour session wins. Prizes will be awarded in the categories of the tallest, best designed, and best constructed! Registration is required for this event as space is limited. Thursday, April 20: The Magic of Professor Tony Baloney, the Amazing Professor Tony Baloney returns to the Fall River Public Library at 11 a.m. with an all-new array of astounding magic tricks to amaze and mystify. Tuesday, April 18: The Movie Matinee at 1 p.m. will be showing “Puss in Boots.” Wednesday, April 19: Story time at 10:30 a.m. with stories, songs, and fun. Thursday, April 20: Lego club from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Ages 5 plus can drop in and build with Legos while making new friends. Friday, April 21: The Toe Jam Variety Show from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. The Acushnet Public Library is located at 232 Middle Road, Acushnet.

Youth Services at the Lakeville Library is hosting some fun

Tuesday, April 18: Mad Science: 3...2...1...Energize, at 1 p.m. examines the various forms of energy we encounter on a daily basis. From the sound, heat, electricity, and more the audience will be energized. Watch the Mad Scientist mix up a batch of exothermic elephant toothpaste. No registration is required. Wednesday, April 19: Matinee Movie: The Bad Guys at 1 p.m. fun afternoon watching the movie with juice and popcorn, free and open to all ages. Middleborough Library has some children’s programs happening

Tuesday, April 18: Pokémon Club, from 1 to 3 p.m. share your cards, play with other kids, learn the game from each other, or just talk Pokémon. Card trading is not allowed, is open to all ages, and no registration is required. Wednesday, April 19: Butterflies with Blake Dinius, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. discuss all you will need to begin butterfly watching: the hobby of observing and identifying butterflies. open to all ages and no registration is required. Thursday, April 20: Owls Up Close from 2 to 3 p.m. This unique presentation has been a library favorite for decades! For young audiences, the show starts with an interactive reading of a big book version of “Owl Babies”. The magic begins when all are entranced in seeing each of the six live owls up close. The program will take place at the Town Hall, outdoors on the lawn, weather permitting.  In the case of inclement weather, the program will move indoors to the Large Ballroom of the Town Hall at 10 Nickerson Ave., Marion. Tickets for the program will be available beginning Tuesday, April 18, and must be picked up at the Library.

The Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum in partnership with the New Bedford Free Public Library will be holding a free family story time at noon Wednesday, April 19, at 396 County St., New Bedford. Meet in the mansion for an engaging half-hour of stories for the whole family, open to all ages. After the stories, take home a family fun craft kit to collaborate and create together.

Scavenger hunts, crafts, and stories

Get into the April Vacation Fun at the Center, during school vacation week the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 20 through Sunday, April 23. There will be activities for kids of all ages including dressing up, enjoying scavenger hunts, interactive museum exhibits, and more. There will be a Crab Hat craft will be available on Thursday and Friday as well as story readings at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on both days. Members are free as well as children under 12; Adults are $5 and Seniors/students are $4. Located at 38 Bethel St., New Bedford.

It’s always a good time to head to the Zoo

Take the kids and head over to Buttonwood Park Zoo. The Zoo features over 240 species, most notably Asian elephants, red pandas, cougars, eagles, seals, otters, South American primates, and numerous waterfowl species.  Located at 425 Hawthorn St., New Bedford, the zoo is open from 9  a.m. to  5 p.m. daily.
