APS Families Have Monday Deadline To Decide To Return To School
ATLANTA, GA — Parents of children in the Atlanta public school district have until Monday to decide if their student(s) will return to class or continue with virtual learning.
Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Lisa Herring held a town hall Thursday night to update parents. It is the first of three virtual town halls.
October 26 is still the target date the district has for bringing students back. Herring said that could change, however, if the COVID-19 cases go up.
"APS will bring a select group of students back for in-person learning starting on Monday, October 26, contingent on the continued downward trend of the spread of COVID-19," according to the district.
Families can choose from three instructional options, Herring said in a letter to parents. There’s virtual learning, in-person and Atlanta Virtual Academy for those who want to stay virtual the entire school year.
“It’s important to me to acknowledge that we recognize there are different opinions across the community about our reopening plan,” Herring said. “I want you to know that we are focused on providing our families with the ability to choose what approach works best for them and their needs.”
