APSU Mondays: Conservation, arts and literature highlight campus events

From grasslands to Beethoven and Chopin, here's what is going on at APSU this week.

Saving Southeastern Grasslands five-year anniversary

The Southeastern Grasslands Initiative, an organization whose mission is to save the forgotten grasslands of the southeast, is celebrating five years and changing its name.

The now named Southeastern Grasslands Institute, was initially formed as part of the Center of Excellence for Field Biology at Austin Peay with help from a donation by the BAND Foundation.

Over five years, the organization has worked to conserve, restore, and promote native grasslands because less than 1% of those ecosystems remain.

“APSU is proud to be SGI’s home and to see all of the valuable scientific research, conservation, restoration, and educational work they are doing to protect one of our nation’s fastest disappearing ecoregions,” said APSU President Michael Licari.
