Aqua Ohio project will replace water main with larger, stronger pipe in Brimfield

Aqua Ohio plans to replace 4,026 linear feet of water main near Brimfield. Work will follow Ranfield Road from Tallmadge Road through Oakwood Estates Drive on the east side of Brimfield.

“This project is important because it increases the volume of water we can deliver to the area for future needs and better fire protection,” said Keith Nutter, area manager of Aqua America. “We’re dedicated to providing clean, safe and reliable water to our customers. This main is a larger diameter and should better serve the customers and the township's future needs.”

The $850,000 project will replace the existing 6-inch water main with an 8-inch ductile-iron main, which is stronger and more corrosion resistant than the original cast-iron pipe. Crews also will more than double the number of fire hydrants in the area from five to 11 to provide a larger blanket of fire protection to customers.

Thirty-one customers will experience short-term service interruptions as their individual services are disconnected from the old line and attached to the new main. Those customers will be notified in advance of planned interruptions, Aqua said.

Traffic flow will be reduced to one lane while work is being conducted between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Drivers are asked to use extra caution in construction areas.

Wenger Excavating of Dalton was selected to do the work, which is expected to be completed by the end of June. Lawn restoration is expected to continue into early fall.

Aqua Ohio is Ohio's largest investor-owned drinking water and wastewater utility and serves about 500,000 residents in 19 counties.
