Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies named the best snack in Oklahoma
Anyone passing Exit 51 near Davis, Oklahoma has spotted the signs for Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies, but the delicacies are made and loved state-wide.
Now, fried pies have been named the best snack in the state, according to Food & Wine.
The distinction comes from the publication's list of best snacks in every state. Food & Wine said it focused on snacks "able to ship without a lot of effort" that "paint a broad picture of American food culture, and to celebrate the considerable breadth and diversity of what's on offer." That means no potato chips as picks for several states.
Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies, at Exit 51 near Davis, is located in a rusticated gas station that has a pink dinosaur on the roof, and an overwhelming number of fried pies for sale inside.

For those who have yet to experience a fried pie, it's a circle of pie crust - made with lard if you're lucky - folded over filling, then freshly fried to order.
"So popular are the high-quality, freshly-made snacks from Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies, packed with fruit preserves and sweet, rich custard," Food & Wine writes, "that they're now sold all up and down the highway,"

For nearby Texas, Food & Wine named Bu-cee's Beaver Nuggets as the best snack. In Louisiana, pralines took the title, and in Arkansas, cured venison earned the honor.
