Arcade trip, scary movie night, JFK museum − activities for all ages

BRAINTREE − New activities for school half-days and in-service days are among the fall offerings of the town's recreation department.

"Half Day Fun Days" will be held Sept. 26 and Oct. 25. The bus will leave Braintree Recreation offices at 74 Pond St. at 1 p.m. and return about 5 p.m., traffic permitting.

The Sept. 26 trip is to Ryan Family Amusements at Hanover Crossing for bowling and arcade games. The cost is $45. The Oct. 26 trip will be a tour of Fenway Park, with a cost of $29.

On Nov. 7, the department will host a trip to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum for students in grades 3-8. The cost is $15 and will include round-trip bus transportation from the recreation office. The bus will leave at 9:15 a.m. and return about 2 p.m. The trip will include a stop for lunch at Sullivan's Castle Island. The cost of lunch is not included.

There will be a free Halloween Movie Night at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Braintree Municipal Golf Course, 101 Jefferson St. The movie will be "The Nightmare Before Christmas," and snacks will be available at the course's Links Cafe. No registration is required, and the rain date is Oct. 27.

The recreation department will host "Monster Mash Dance Party" on Oct. 28 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for grades 3-5 and from 8 to 9:30 p.m. for grades 6-8. Participants are encouraged to wear a costume. The cost is $10, which includes pizza along with a water or soda.

Other fall programs offered by the department include a trivia contest for seniors at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at the elder affairs building, 71 Cleveland Ave. A light lunch will follow the contest, which is run in partnership with the Department of Elder Affairs. The department will also hold a block party at Watson Park from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 15. Free hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided and there will be free games and entertainment.
