Archbishop Hoban High School has hired Matt Bing to serve as its director of athletics.

Bing served as Hoban's assistant director of athletics for the past five years.

Bing succeeds Tim Tyrrell, who spent the past six years as the director of athletics. Tyrrell is now Hoban's director of strategic partnerships and is continuing to serve as the Knights football coach.

Bing has 11 years of experience as an athletic director at St. Thomas Aquinas and he also coached football for five years at Aquinas under Joe Nohra and Tyrrell.

"I am looking forward to the school year," Bing said. "Hoban is a great school with tremendous athletic tradition and I am just looking to keep moving forward with that and keep it going. The athletic programs are in a great place right now."

Bing competed in football and swimming at Aquinas before graduating in 1994. He earned All-Ohio honors as an offensive tackle, and then was a three-year letter winner on the University of Tulsa football team. He graduated from Tulsa in 1999.

Bing said Corey Westover has been named Hoban's assistant director of athletics after serving as the athletic administrative assistant. Hoban hired Laney Jones to serve as the athletic administrative assistant.

"Tim is still here if I need to talk to him about anything, Corey is moving over to the assistant position and Laney has interned for us," Bing said. "We are all familiar with each other. ... It is going to be a good team."
