Feb. 8—Demolition of the old addition and asbestos abatement is complete at the Cumberland County Archives building.

Kevin Chamberlin, architect with Upland Design Group, gave county commissioners a brief update on a few building projects during February's building and grounds committee meeting.

"Work at the Archives is moving along. Obviously there was a weather slowdown, but the demolition work is done," Chamberlin said.

He said a mechanical system had been unhooked but it was addressed and the gas has been reconnected.

"Everything is progressing along," Chamberlin said.

Wendell Wilson, 6th District commissioner and committee chairman asked, "What about the asbestos abatement?"

"It is complete," Chamberlin said.

Regarding the Cumberland County Courthouse repair and renovation projects, Chamberlin said they had met with both WJE Engineering and Stubbs Construction.

"We ... discussed coordination of the reroofing under phase one and phase two air [HVAC] units being installed, and they will work together to make sure there are no issues. It is progressing well," Chamberlin said.

It was also noted that landscaping and trees and shrubbery up next to the courthouse building was being removed in order to make room for equipment and supplies for the installation of all of the windows at the courthouse.

"There will be new landscaping installed near the end of the project," Wilson said.
