From the Archives: December 9 in the Pioneer

Dec. 9—December 9, 2013 — A home was lost to a fire on Beltrami Line Road, just south of Bemidji in Hubbard County. Both the Bemidji and Cass Lake Fire Departments responded to the blaze, with Cass Lake taking the lead. It is unknown whether anyone was inside of the home when the fire began.

December 9, 1998 — Children in the preschool classes in the Bemidji School District had the chance to construct gingerbread houses this week, decorating their sugary homes with frosting, gumdrops and candy canes. The experience was full of holiday cheer, as parents helped their children with construction and music played in the background.

December 9, 1973 — Students at St. Philips School will be holding a Christmas play titled "The Drum" later this week, which the general public is invited to attend. The primary roles are played by seventh and eighth graders, with the music and dance provided by the rest of the school. Sets and backgrounds and props have also been made by the students.

December 9, 1923 — Bemidji's Salvation Army will begin its seasonal activities ahead of Christmas, as is usual for this time of year. Members of the public who know individuals and families, particularly those with children, who are in need are asked to reach out so that assistance can be provided.
