From the Archives: March 16 in the Pioneer

Mar. 16—March 16, 2012 — Staring down at the ice rink from the second floor of the Neilson-Reise arena, Inger Kroeplin could not believe so many years had passed. "The years I spent here . . . I mean, I practically lived here," she said. After 35 years of coaching figure skaters, Kroeplin has retired. Her efforts will be recognized during the Bemidji Figuring Skating Club's Fantasy on Ice show.

March 16, 1997 — While the players jumped for joy, a solitary figure, donning a proud smile sat on the BSU bench soaking it in. The national championship, which BSU captured with their 4-2 victory, was as much his as the players but he preferred to let the athletes savor the spotlight. "It's their time," head coach Bob Peters said. "I work for the players, I don't work for myself."

March 16, 1972 — Several members of BSC Faculty Wives met recently to discuss plans for a Spring Brunch to be held Saturday, April 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 in Walnut Hall. Faculty wives and their guests are cordially invited to attend the annual event, which will feature the theme, "You've Come a Long Way, Baby!"

March 16, 1922 — The much-talked-of Lutheran hospital is about to become a realized fact in the city of Bemidji. For some months a faithful few have been actively engaged in raising funds with which to build this building and now comes the word that ground is to be broken in the early spring. The new hospital association became the owner of 18 lots in Block 10 of this city.
