When Michigan State University broke ground on the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum in 2010, then-President Lou Anna Simon called it a "beacon for the future."
The building's futuristic look was in stark contrast to the older buildings on north campus. Some loved it; others didn't. But it's clearly one of the most identifiable buildings on campus.
Designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid, the museum was described in a 2010 Lansing State Journal article as an "angular, horizontal building with a skin of glass and aluminum pleats."
It opened in November 2012 and since then has featured many exhibits and art-based community outreach programs.
In October 2014, scenes for the movie "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" starring Ben Affleck were filmed there.
The Broads gave MSU a $26 million donation to help build the museum that bears their name.
