From the Archives: October 26 in the Pioneer

Oct. 26—October 26, 2012 — A new emergency warning system is being implemented in Beltrami County, called CodeRED. It will give residents a variety of ways to be alerted to a potential emergency situation, such a storm or gas leak, including a phone call, text message, email or app notification.

October 26, 1997 — Bemidji's Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox statues will get a few minutes in the national spotlight, as a part of a brief filmed segment for Country Music Television's Thanksgiving special. A film crew spent four hours capturing the segment, which will end with Bemidji's Larry Young introducing the next song.

October 26, 1972 — The Beltrami County Republican Headquarters in Bemidji was the target of vandalism, as employees found over 6,000 papers for mailing had been destroyed with motor oil when they entered the building. The political office has been the target of vandalism before, namely the theft of political signs.

October 26, 1922 — Four young adults were robbed at gunpoint by masked bandits while taking a drive around Rocky Point on Lake Bemidji. Several shots were fired by a rifle, though thankfully no one was badly injured, and the victims were stripped of their valuables and left on the roadside. The car has been recovered, but the bandits are still at large.
