As arctic blast looms, search continues for man who went missing from Marlborough hospital

MARLBOROUGH The search for a man who was last seen leaving UMass Memorial-Health Marlborough Hospital almost two weeks ago is continuing as a blast of dangerously cold weather throughout the region looms.

Despite an extensive search more than two dozen police dog search teams were scouring the woods on Wednesday authorities have not found Jeffrey Allard, 57, Marlborough police spokesman Sgt. Zachary Attaway said.

Allard was last seen at 10 a.m. on Jan. 21, when he left the hospital on his own after authorities had sent him there under a Section 12 an act that's used for someone under psychological distress and who could be a danger to themselves or others.

Allard's daughter, Larissa Ostiguy, told MassLive that authorities found a duffel bag that Allard had been seen with at the hospital in the woods on Cook Lane in Marlborough. The bag contained Allard's cellphone, blue jeans and discharges from the Marlborough hospital.

On Wednesday, 25 search dogs and handlers from member departments of the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council and the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, along with the Worcester County Sheriff's office and the state Department of Conservation and Recreation rangers, gathered at 911 Field on Acre Bridge Road in Southborough, Attaway said.

"Units deployed, covered and cleared all areas surrounding the Sudbury Reservoir all the way to Route 30 in Southborough," he said.

In addition, the DCR again searched the Sudbury Reservoir, this time using a cadaver dog. They did not find anything, Attaway said.

Police from several law enforcement agencies have been searching the reservoir and the area around it since Friday and have not found any indication Allard was there.

Forecasters say dangerously cold weather will move into the region Friday night into Saturday. During the early morning hours on Saturday, temperatures are expected to drop below zero.

Allard is described as being a white man, 6 feet 1 inches tall with short, brown curly hair and brown eyes and weighing an approximately 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, black shoes and a dark-gray hooded sweatshirt with a Coca-Cola logo on the right side.

Anyone with information about Allard's whereabouts is asked to call the Marlborough Police Department at 508-485-1212.
