AREA ATHLETE COLLEGE REPORT: Hall makes sizzling start

Following is a look at how former area high school stars have fared in recent college competition.

JAKOB HALL

(Bartlesville)

Oral Roberts baseball

To no one’s surprise, sophomore pitcher Jakob Hall drew the opening-day start earlier this month for the Oral Roberts University baseball team.

The Bartlesville High graduate responded with a gem in six innings — six hits allowed, one earned run, no walks and six strikeouts in the 16-2 win against Northern Illinois.

The 6-foot-2 right-handed Hall played pitched last year mainly in relief, working 26.1 innings and striking out 35 batters.

He finished 2-0 as a freshman, with mound wins against Central Arkansas and Oklahoma State.

ORU is off to a 4-1 start. Hall’s next possible pitching appearance could be this weekend, when Tulsa plays a three-game set at Texas State. The opener is 6 p.m. Friday.

(Bartlesville)

Kansas women’s swimming

During the opening day of the Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas, Howze sped to first place in the women’s 100 yard breaststroke time trial (1:04.91).

JACE KAMINSKA

(Caney, Kan.)

Nebraska baseball

Following a quintessential roller-coaster career at Wichita State, Kaminska transferred to the University of Nebraska.

The hard-throwing right-handed junior hurdler made his first start last weekend for Nebraska. He recorded a no-decision in the 5-3 loss to San Diego.

Kaminska worked 5.2 innings, scattered five hits, allowed one walk and three runs and whiffed four batters.

CHESNIE HEWITT

(Oklahoma Union)

Murray State softball

Hewitt blasted two doubles, a homer and a single in an 8-0 rout of Grayson College.

Hewitt’s final line score was 4-for-5, three runs and two RBIs.

Murray State is 14-0 on the season. The squad finished as national runner-up last year and came into this season ranked No. 2.

Emporia State track

During the recent Steve Miller Invitational in Manhattan, Kan., Hunt soared to third place in the men’s pole vault at 14-1.25-feet.

Next up for Emporia are the MIAA Championships this weekend.

KYLEE GREENE

(Bartlesville)

Air Force women’s gymnastics

Greene set a career high on the balance beam (9.8) during a recent competition. She also matched her floor exercise high (9.825).

JACE HOLLINGSHED

(Oklahoma Union)

Science & Arts men’s basketball

Hollingshed came off the bench to score four points in an 87-65 win against Central Christian (Kan.). The victory started a three-game winning streak.

BARRON TANNER Jr.

(Bartlesville)

East Central men’s basketball

Tanner remains East Central’s fourth-leading scorer (8.9 ppg) and top three-point marksman (43-of-119).

He is second in offensive rebounds (25) and averages 3.1 rpg. Tanner also leads in blocked shots.

During a 90-79 thumping of Henderson State, Tanner poured in 12 points, handed out two assists, blocked three shots and pulled down four rebounds.

Rio Grande Valley women’s basketball

Despite some tough turns this season, Texas Rio Grande Valley defeated Tarleton State, 66-58, to clinch a spot in the WAC postseason tourney.

Williams recorded four points and spooned out a team-high five assists. She also grabbed a rebound

EMMA SHELLEY

(Bartlesville)

Central Oklahoma women’s golf

Shelley put together a 54-hole 243 (85-81-77) to help elevate Central Oklahoma to 11th place at the Southern Invite in Spring, Texas.

Shelley shot UCO’s fourth-leading score.

ELISE CONE

(Bartlesville)

John Brown women’s basketball

During a 63-48 rout of Southwestern Christian, Cone rang up a three-pointer and pulled down a board.

MARY CONE

(Bartlesville)

Oklahoma Wesleyan women’s basketball

Cone made 25 game appearances, fifth most on the team. She contributed 1.3 points, 0.4 rebounds and 0.3 steals per game.
