Area athletes participate in meets at Tea, Vermillion, Yankton, Centerville and Pierre.

TEA — Watertown High School's track and field teams competed outside for the first time this spring and won six events in the Tea Area Titan Relays on Tuesday.

Ten schools competed. Sioux Falls Christian won team titles in each division. Watertown's girls took second with 80.25 points and the boys took third with 88. Some of the meet's field events were held in Vermillion.

"I certainly don't want to complain about the weather, but it was hot," said Watertown head coach Chad Rohde. "It's tough when you have to deal with snowbanks, cold weather and no track in Watertown and all of a sudden you go south and it's 85 degrees and your SPF 30 doesn't work as well as it should."

Maddy Rohde (javelin, 114-10) and Hayden Thomas (triple jump, 32-11.5) each won individual events for the Arrow girls, which also won the 1,600 relay in a time of 4:19. Runners included Andi Olson, Emery Thury, Victoria Smith and Eve Hauger.
