Area basketball roundup: Elks upset Howard in Region 4B action

Mar. 6—Elkton-Lake Benton stunned No. 3 Howard, 54-36, in the Region 4B boys basketball tournament on Friday at the Corn Palace.

Elkton-Lake Benton (17-4): Matthew Nibbe tossed in 20 points for the Elks, who jumped ahead 33-15 at halftime. Marcus Harming tossed in 11 points, while Miles Harming added eight points. The Elks play Dell Rapids St. Mary in the SoDak 16 on March 9.

Howard: Sam Aslesen led the Tigers with 13 points and Ryder Erickson netted eight points. Howard finishes the season 17-4.

Dell Rapids St. Mary (18-4): Connor Libis finished with 15 points and five rebounds, while Ty Brown tossed in 13 points and grabbed five boards. Sam Palmer netted 11 points and dished out six assists. Max Herber grabbed eight rebounds. The Cardinals play ELB in the SoDak 16 on March 9.

Wessington Springs (18-4): Mason Schelske finished with an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double. Tyler Kole added 10 points and seven rebounds. The Spartans play in the SoDak 16 on March 9. The Spartans play Canistota in the SoDak 16 on March 9.
