Area basketball roundup for Jan. 27: Ethan girls, Howard boys win Class B showdowns

Jan. 27—ETHAN, S.D. — Madeline Bartscher's 28 points proved pivotal in Ethan's girls basketball victory over Howard on Friday night by a 61-54 score.

Ethan led the game 30-28 at halftime and 50-39 after three quarters. Marissa Storm and Ava Lingemann each had 10 points and Annalise Buenning had eight points.

Howard had Kate Connor with 13 points and Dakota Spader had 12 points, all on 3-pointers. Trinity Palmquist had 11 points and Abby Aslesen added eight points.

Ethan (10-2) was slated to play in the Sacred Hoops Classic on Saturday at Augustana University against Canton, but the game has been canceled due to the weather and will not be made up. The Rustlers' next action is at Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Jan. 31 in Forestburg.

Howard (12-3) is back on the court on Monday, Jan. 30 hosting Oldham-Ramona/Rutland.

ETHAN, S.D. — On the boys side of the doubleheader, Howard earned its fourth win in a row with a 65-55 victory over Class B No. 5-ranked Ethan.

Howard broke a 41-all tie going to the fourth quarter and then outscored the Rustlers, 24-13 from there. The Tigers led 17-7 after one quarter and 29-23 at halftime.

Howard was paced by Luke Koepsell's 21 points and Ryder Erickson had 19 points. For Ethan, Riley Endres had 15 points, Kody Klumb added 12 and Wyatt Sinkie had nine points.

Howard (8-3) plays on Monday, Jan. 30 hosting Oldham-Ramona/Rutland. Ethan (10-2) heads to Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Jan. 31.

* Megan Reiner's 29 points, two assists and seven steals boosted Tripp-Delmont/Armour to a 48-40 road win at Burke.

* Reagan Rus scored 22 points on 9-for-16 shooting and Emilee Fox had 12 points to help Mount Vernon/Plankinton win a road game at Winner, 54-45. MVP led 40-20 at halftime. Winner had 11 points from Karlee Brozik.

* Karly VanDerWerff had 11 points and seven rebounds as Hadley Hanson and Baleigh Nachtigal scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, in Platte-Geddes' 58-26 win over Colome.

* Payton DeLange had 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists for Corsica-Stickney in a 61-35 home win over Menno. Avery Broughton had 11 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Sutten Eide had nine points and eight rebounds. Menno had 13 points from Ashton Massey.

* Ashley Bjerke scored 20 points and had nine rebounds as Sioux Valley won 62-41 in the semifinal round of the Big East Conference Tournament on Friday over McCook Central/Montrose in Salem. The Cossacks, who play Flandreau for the title on Saturday, made 11 3-pointers, as Landree Wilson scored 13 points and Isabelle Bloker had 12. Anna Reiffenberger had 14 points for the hometown Fighting Cougars.

* Northwestern's Adriana Ratigan posted 21 points and nine rebounds in a 48-22 win over Langford Area.

* Tea Area's Mara Grant racked up 27 points, seven rebounds and six steals as the Titans downed Madison, 64-38.

* Andie Peters had 18 points — on six 3-pointers — for the Orioles as Lennox defeated West Central, 50-38.

* Shad Bosma posted an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double with three assists as Lucas Krogstad added 10 points and nine rebounds for Corsica-Stickney in a 48-29 win over Menno. In the loss, Kadeyn Ulmer had 11 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots.

* Hayden Sprik and Dawson Hoffman combined for 31 points as Platte-Geddes took down Colome, 65-46. Sprik had 18 and Hoffman scored 13 for the Black Panthers.

* Winner picked up 24 points from Blake Volmer — who was a perfect 10-for-10 on free throws — in a 66-48 win over Mount Vernon/Plankinton. Volmer added 10 rebounds and seven assists, and Shawn Hammerbeck had 13 points and Ethan Bartels had 12 points. Reed Rus and Zach Baker both had 16 points for the Titans.

* Mobridge-Pollock had 19 points from Kobe Goodshield, plus 14 from Michael Wald and 12 from Shane Henderson in a 54-45 Big Dakota Conference win on Friday. Chamberlain's Kenyon McCloskey had 23 points and six rebounds for the Cubs, who also had 13 from Dakota Munger.

* Landon Thury helped Avon to a 38-37 win over Freeman, finishing with 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. In the loss, David Walter had 11 points and seven rebounds.

* Daniel Mitchell put up 23 points, as Jack Bolander and Rane Kenzy added 14 and 11, respectively, in Gregory's 61-40 win over Jones County.
