Area basketball roundup for Jan. 31: Ethan boys, girls down Sanborn Central/Woonsocket

Jan. 31—FORESTBURG, S.D. — Three players scored in double figures for Ethan as the Rustlers picked up a 60-38 road win over Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Tuesday.

Riley Endres poured in 22 points for Ethan, while Wyatt Sinkie added 13 and Taite Klumb chipped in 11.

After taking a 10-8 lead into the second quarter, Ethan outscored SCW 34-17 over the second and third quarters to pull away.

Sinkie added six rebounds, and Klumb pulled down five, while Kory Storm dished out three assists.

For the Blackhawks, Jeff Boschee scored a game-high 23 points and was the only player in double digits for SCW. He also hauled in four rebounds, as did Brady Larson, while Bryce Larson had three assists and Michael Hoffman picked up three steals.

Ethan (11-2) travels to Kimball/White Lake on Friday, Feb. 3 for its next game, while SCW's (5-6) next contest comes as a road contest against Corsica-Stickney on Friday.

* Avon took down Menno, 47-26, on Tuesday. Trace Pelton had 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Landon Thury scored 13 points and had 14 rebounds for Avon.

* Ethan Cheeseman scored 36 points, knocking down five of his nine 3-point tries, and added 10 rebounds as Hanson took down Wagner, 61-46.

* A 23-point, 11-rebound double-double from Nick Hanson helped Viborg-Hurley beat Canistota, 47-45.

* A big effort from Ashlyn Koupal helped Wagner get past Hanson, 62-46. Koupal had 26 points on 11-for-17 shooting. Emma Yost had 12 points and 16 rebounds and Macy Koupal added 10 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for the Red Raiders, who outrebounded Hanson, 51-26. Alyssa Moschell had 12 points for the Beavers.

* Abby Aslesen scored 27 points to lead Howard to a 60-41 road win over Irene-Wakonda, with the Tigers improving to 14-3. Kate Connor had 15 points for Howard, and Emma Marshall had 14 for the Eagles.

* Parkston took down McCook Central/Montrose on Tuesday, 55-36, powered by 21 points and seven rebounds from Berkley Ziebart. Grace Oakley and Mya Thuringer each had nine points for the Trojans, as well.

* Wessington Springs won in overtime, 71-65, over Iroquois/Lake Preston. Kate Havlik had 24 points and Kirstie Munsen had 15 points for the Spartans, while Adison Moore had 25 points for the Sharks.

* Regan Hoffman (17), Karly VanDerWerff (15) and Baleigh Nachtigal (15) all scored in double-figures to help Platte-Geddes to a 62-35 win over Chamberlain. Hoffman, VanDerWerff, Nachtigal and Cadence Van Zee all had eight rebounds in the game. Chamberlain had 18 points from Kinsey Evans.

* Courtney Sees scored 24 points to help Avon earn a road win at Menno on Tuesday, 62-29. Lila Vanderlei had 14 points and McKenna Kocmich had 11 points for Avon. Ashton Massey scored 13 for the Wolves.

* Coral Mason had 27 points, six rebounds and four blocks for top-ranked Viborg-Hurley in the Cougars' 61-48 win over Canistota in Hurley. Estelle Lee had 14 points and Denae Mach scored 10 for V-H, which is now 13-1. Kayla Papendick had a team-high 14 points for Canistota.

* Emilee Fox had 22 points and seven assists to pace Mount Vernon/Plankinton to a home win over Gregory, 57-52. Reagan Rus had 17 points and Kyla Schmidt added 11, as the Titans won for the fourth time in the last five games. Jessy Jo VanDerWerff had 21 points for Gregory.

* Megan Reiner had 16 points and Kinley Spaans had 10 points as Tripp-Delmont/Armour won 40-31 over Gayville-Volin on Tuesday in Tripp. Taylor Hoxeng had 15 for the Raiders.

* Isabelle Ellwein scored 19 points for Huron in a 45-33 win over Sioux Falls Roosevelt at the Huron Arena on Tuesday.

* A 28-point, nine-rebound outing from Avery Broughton, coupled with 15 points from Payton DeLange, led Corsica-Stickney to a 63-56 win over Burke. Adisyn Indahl had 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in the loss.

* As Wolsey-Wessington downed Kimball/White Lake 57-48, Mya Boomsma scored 22 points and Leah Williams added 17. For the Wildkats, Harley Namanny had 26 points and eight rebounds.
