St. Joe Valley HOF inductions

The St. Joe Valley Chapter of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame will induct 10 new members on Friday, June 17, 2022, at St. Hedwig Memorial Hall in South Bend.

Cocktail hour will begin at 5:30 with dinner at 6:30. Tickets are available at Bremen, Concord, Goshen, Jimtown, and Penn High Schools.

You may also buy tickets through Don Monhaut (574) 261-7341 or at don9450@comcast.net. Tickets are $25 each & are on sale until June 3rd. Tickets will not be sold at the door; they must be purchased in advance. The banquet will also feature a “silent auction” of Notre Dame memorabilia.

The class of 2022 inductees are: Ned Cook (Jimtown), Chuck Freeby (WHME), Mike Hecklinski (Marian), Marty Huber (Bremen), Johnny Lujack (Notre Dame), Jeremy Lowery (Penn), David Miller (Goshen), Rickie Mitchem (SB Adams), Tony Semak (Penn), and Roy Swoape (Concord).

Youth camps with Irish

The Takeoff Tour powered by TUFF (The Uniform Funding Foundation) is holding a summer football camp series with June 11 slated as the local stop at Saint Joseph High School.

The camps for grades 4-8 and 9-12 will feature Notre Dame football players, including quarterback Tyler Buchner, defensive lineman Isaiah Foskey, cornerback Cam Hart and linebackers Bo Bauer and Marist Liufau.

Admission is free, but a donation of at least $1 must be made to TUFF, a nonprofit that provides uniforms, equipment and mentorship to underserved youth athletes.

Camp times slots are 2-4 p.m. for grades 4-8 and 6-8 p.m. for grades 9-12.

LaPorte native Ulmer named IHSAA assistant commissioner

Janie Ulmer, a LaPorte native and current principal at Hamilton Southeastern High School, has been approved by the Indiana High School Athletic Association Executive Committee to become an assistant commissioner.

Ulmer, one of seven finalists for the job, will begin her duties with the IHSAA on July 1.

Ulmer spent 24 years in the LaPorte Community School Corporation before spending the last five years in the Hamilton Southeastern Schools system.

She is a 1989 graduate of Valparaiso University and is an alumnus of LaPorte High School where was a member of the girls basketball team, later serving as an assistant coach and helped with the baseball team under late Hall of Fame coach Ken Schreiber.
