Area COVID cases down to 'medium'

Jan. 12—The level of COVID-19 infection in Boyd and surrounding counties has dropped to medium according to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control. Pike County remains in the high category.

Lawrence County, Ohio, and Wayne County, West Virginia, register medium as well; figures for Cabell County, West Virginia, were not available.

The CDC continues to urge the public to wash hands frequently, avoid close contact with others, clean and disinfect surroundings, improve ventilation, cover coughs and sneezes, wear a high-quality mask and be aware of changes in health, in addition to continue getting vaccinations.

Worldometer.info reports the United States has had 110,462,560 cases of COVID-19, with 1,191,815 deaths and 108,144,870 recovered.

Healthmatters.nyp.org points out symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to those of influenza and include fever, chills, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea.
