Area earns 15 selections to NMHSCA all-state teams

May 22—A total of 15 prep basketball players from Curry and Roosevelt counties were placed on the New Mexico High School Coaches Association's all-state teams, including six on the first teams.

Melrose led the way with five first-team selections. The boys 1A squad featured Devon Bailey, Trace Jackson and Tate Sorgen, while the girls 1A first team included Hailey Martin and Isabelle Sena.

Jahvon Askew of Texico was named first-team in boys Class 2A.

Portales placed Teagan Faust, Kylyie Paden and Taris Rippee on the Class 4A girls second team.

Clovis Christian also had a trio of second-team selections, with Teune Carter named to the 1A boys second team and sisters Lola and Sofia Degroot gaining second team honors on the girls 1A squad.

Other players named to second teams included Elida's Teagan Burton and Rylan Creighton and Teryn Foote of Grady.
