Area events to be held to comemmorate 9/11

Sep. 9—Monday will mark the 22nd anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that killed more than 3,000 Americans and collapsed the World Trade Center in New York.

Following are details of two events honoring victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.:

— 9/11 memorial event honoring Major Ronald D. Milam — 11 a.m. Monday, Ballroom, ENMU Campus Union Building, Portales. Public event honoring Milam, an ENMU alum who died in the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. A recording of this event will be shared at a later date. More information is available by calling 575-562-2412.

— Joint Curry County and Cannon Air Force Base 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony and Stair Climb. This event, while not public, will be livestreamed on Curry County's Facebook page and on Cannon AFB. The event will take place at the Cannon Air Force Base Fire Station beginning at 6:46 a.m. Monday to honor first responders and civilians who lost their lives on Sept.11, 2001. The event will include an opening ceremony followed by a silent march to the Flight Tower and a reading of the names of all first responders who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. The march will include climbing the stairs of the flight tower. Following the march, there will be a reading of civilian names and a closing ceremony.
