Area football roundup: Black Panthers rally for win over KWL

Oct. 16—PLATTE — Grayson Hanson rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns to help Platte-Geddes rally in the second half Friday afternoon for a 20-7 nine-man football win over Kimball/White Lake.

Hanson scored on runs of 46 yards in the third quarter and six yards in the fourth quarter. Chase Verilek added 90 yards on 17 attempts, while Dawson Hoffman completed three passes for 41 yards, including a touchdown pass to Jackson Olsen for 21 yards in the fourth quarter for the Black Panthers. P-G outgained KWL in total yards 264-214, but the Black Panthers forced four turnovers.

For Kimball/White Lake, Holden Havlik led the offense with 67 yards rushing on 11 attempts and scored the only touchdown for the Wildkats on a 2-yard run in the first quarter. He also passed for 31 yards. Iden Myers posted rushing 48 yards, Jacob Novak had 35 yards and Levi Nightingale had 28 yards.

Platte-Geddes improved to 6-2 with the win, while Kimball/White Lake capped the regular season at 2-6.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton 6, WWSSC 0

MOUNT VERNON — In a defensive battle, Mount Vernon/Plankinton was able to shut out Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central and pick up its seventh win of the season. The Titan's defense proved to be too much for WWSSC, as they kept them to a team total of only 54 offensive yards in the game. Reed Rus threw 69 yards, going 5-for-9, and rushed the ball 23 times to pick up 67 yards and the only touchdown of the game early in the third quarter. Lincoln Klooz ran 12 times to add 70 yards for the Titans, while Griffin Tobin notched 43 yards on 11 receptions.

For WWSSC, Clay Olinger rushed the ball 12 times, picking up 35 yards. Carter Grohs had 10 tackles, while Toby Kneen, Philip Hines, and Quinten Christensen all added seven tackles.

Both teams will go to the Class 11B postseason on Thursday, Oct. 21, with MVP finishing at 7-1 and WWSSC at 5-3.

BEE 54, Baltic 0

BALTIC — Koby Kayser had three rushing touchdowns in the first half to help Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan build a 42-0 halftime advantage en route to a Class 11B victory for the Seahawks Friday afternoon.

Kayser scored from 26, 17 and 15 yards out. Kaden Klumb and Clay Hohn each had short touchdown runs, and Klumb hit Sam Hofer for a 10-yard touchdown to build the large halftime lead. Taite Klumb and Skylar Hopkins each had touchdown runs to bring the game to an early end due to the 50-point rule late in the third quarter.

BEE wraps the regular season at 5-3, while Baltic finishes at 1-7.

Burke 40, Gayville-Volin 34

BURKE — In a huge comeback, Burke outscored Class 9B No. 2-ranked Gayville-Volin 26-8 in the fourth quarter to pick up a thrilling nine-man win Friday night.

The Cougars cut the game to within one point at 34-33 with a Ben Witt touchdown pass to Taron Serr from six yards out with 52 seconds left. After recovering an onside kick, Witt hit Serr for a 51-yard touchdown pass to put Burke ahead 40-34 in the final seconds. G-V drove to the Burke 11-yard line, where Brogan Glover intercepted a pass with 1 second remaining.

For Burke, Witt completed 17 of his 24 passes, throwing 231 yards and three touchdowns. Serr added 109 rushing yards on 14 attempts and 105 receiving yards on five catches and scored four touchdowns, two in the air and two on the ground. Bryce Frank caught the ball six times to contribute 81 yards and a touchdown, while Jackson Bauld had a rushing touchdown.

G-V's Andrew Gustad rushed the ball 19 times for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Nate Qautier threw for 126 yards and a touchdown pass, going 10-for-15, and ran 11 times to pick up 59 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Kyle Hirsch caught the ball seven times for 117 yards and a touchdown.

Burke finishes the regular season with a record of 5-3, while Gayville-Volin finishes at 5-2.

Gregory 42, Bon Homme 12

TYNDALL — Gregory capped its regular season scoring six touchdowns in a win over Bon Homme Friday night.

For the Gorillas, Rylan Peck rushed for two touchdowns while Owen Hansen and Kade Stukel rushed for one touchdown each.

Riley Rothschadl led the Cavaliers passing for 166 yards, one reception by Evan Ulmer for 73 yards and three receptions by Cayden Himes for 49 yards. \u0009Isaac Crownover led the defense with 12 tackles while Chapin Cooper and Jacob Denton had 10 tackles each. Crownover also had 11 carries for 52 yards.

Gregory finishes the regular season at 5-3, while Bon Homme ends the season at 3-5.

Corsica-Stickney 42, Centerville 12

CORSICA — Corsica-Stickney ended its regular season with a 30-point win over Centerville on Friday night.

Quarterbacks Shad Bosma passed 10-for-13 and threw 106 yards and a touchdown, and Tyson Wentland passed 9-for-11 and had 112 yards. Bosma also ran eight times to pick up 25 yards and three rushing touchdowns, while Wentland had 35 yards from three receptions and a touchdown catch. Carter Wright caught the ball 11 times for 102 yards and rushed eight times to pick up 67 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Cole Feenstra added 70 yards off four receptions, while Caden Vandrongelen rushed the ball for the Jaguars' final touchdown.

Cole Edberg led Centerville with 174 passing yards and two touchdowns, throwing 16 for 34. Owen Hunter caught the ball three times to pick up 62 yards and added a team-high 11 tackles. Austin Bohlman had 43 yards on seven receptions, including a 20-yard touchdown catch. Lane Johnson caught the other touchdown, adding 21 yards off of three receptions.

Corsica-Stickney finishes the regular season at 2-6, while Centerville ends at 1-7.

Avon 30, Hitchcock-Tulare 28

AVON — Brady Bierema rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries in a back-and-forth game to remain undefeated against Hitchcock-Tulare.

For Avon, Riley Rucktaeschel also ran for 43 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. The Pirates had 280 total yards rushing.

The Patriots rushed for 284 yards total, with Erik Salman leading the way with 193 yards on 31 carries. Landon Puffer added 45 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and Kyle Hamilton had 44 yards on 10 carries. Puffer also completed four passes for 45 yards and an interception.

The Pirates finish the regular season with a record of 8-0, while Hitchcock-Tulare falls to 6-3.

Parkston 66, Wolsey-Wessington 40

WOLSEY — In an offensive 106-point battle, Class 9AA No. 2-ranked Parkston came out on top to win its final game of the season against Class 9A No. 5 Wolsey-Wessington.

Parkston's Cole Prunty rushed the ball for 260 yards and scored four touchdowns, while Kolter Kramer scored one touchdown and ran for 108 yards as well. Quarterback Kaleb Weber passed for 57 yards and a touchdown.

For Wolsey-Wessington, Blaze Herdman passed for 238 yards and two touchdowns. Jemetrius Scott had 121 receiving yards and a score, while Carson Zomer receiver for 72 yards a touchdown as well. Marty Gohn scored two touchdowns on the ground and added 51 rushing yards and eight tackles. Tate French contributed 11 tackles for WW in the effort.

Parkston wraps the regular season at 6-2, while Wolsey-Wessington falls to 5-3.

MCM 41, Flandreau 18

SALEM — McCook Central/Montrose capped its regular season by forcing seven turnovers in a 41-18 home win over Flandreau on Friday night.

The Fighting Cougars were led by 180 passing yards and three touchdowns from Gavin Gordon, who went 17 for 34 through the air. Running back Trevor Hansen carried 19 times for 129 yards and a 53-yard fourth-quarter touchdown. Cody Miles caught a pair of first-quarter scores as part of a nine-reception, 90-yard night.

For the Fliers, Tanner Christenson went 19-of-27 passing for 199 yards and two touchdowns. Flandreau racked up 372 yards of total offense.

MCM finishes the regular season at 6-2, as Flandreau drops to 2-6.

Lennox 38, Chamberlain 0

LENNOX — Jackson Arlt rushed for three touchdowns and the Lennox defense scored twice to lead the Orioles to a home victory over Class 11A foe Chamberlain on Friday.

Arlt had touchdown runs of 44, 6, and 1 yard in the game, finishing with 133 yards on 17 carries, plus 29 receiving yards. The Orioles had four sacks, including two from Triston Butler and Jace Langbehn had 11 tackles, a sack and an 85-yard fumble return for a touchdown, as Lennox led by the eventual final score at halftime.

Chamberlain outgained Lennox 307-265, including 231 passing yards but the Cubs had three turnovers in the game. No individual stats were reported for Chamberlain.

Lennox (5-3) travels to No. 2-ranked Canton on Oct. 21, while Chamberlain (1-7) closes the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 21 at Custer.

Lyman 54, Jones County 0

MURDO — Colton Collins rushed for three touchdowns in a game that saw Lyman score 54 first-half points for the Raiders' fourth-straight victory.

Collins ran for a total of 94 yards on 10 carries to lead the Raiders over the Coyotes. Teagan Gourneau followed that with 80 yards on two attempts, Rory McManus gained 60 yards and Jacob Sazue had 28 yards on the ground. Lyman had 333 overall rushing yards as a team. Gorneau also had 5 yards passing on a connection with Sam McClanahan.

For the Coyotes, Kaden Kinsley had 14 yards rushing on four carries and Dylan Fouss had five yards on one carry. Kinsley also led the team in passing with seven yards on two completions. Kolten Hatheway had one reception for 11 yards.

Lyman finishes the regular season at 7-1, while Jones County ends the 2021 campaign at 1-7.

TDAACDC 66, Hill City 6

HILL CITY — Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian earned a road win on a snow-covered field in the Black Hills Friday night. The game was ended at halftime by the 50-point rule.

Cade Faulkner finished the game 7-for-14 passing for 203 yards and four touchdowns, hitting Trey Sparks three times for 89 yards and a touchdown. Faulkner also had a rushing touchdown in the game. The other touchdown passes went to Nolan Black Cloud, Mason Reiner and Camden Bialas. Gavin Westondorf rushed three times for 49 yards and two touchdowns for the Thunderhawks, who outgained Hill City, 293-68. Rizon Clark had an interception on defense and a rushing touchdown.

Devin Buehler had eight carries for 86 yards and a touchdown for Hill City in the game.

TDAACDC closes the regular season at 3-5, and the Rangers' season ends at 1-7.
