CLASS 4A

BURKBURNETT 62, BRIDGEPORT 34

BURKBURNETT – Burkburnett scored more than half its 2021 season point total in one game Friday night, routing Bridgeport, 62-34, for a successful 2022 debut. The Bulldogs totaled just 120 points in 10 games last season.

It’s the most points Burkburnett has scored since a 63-0 win against Venus in Week 1 of the 2018 season.

Junior quarterback Hunter McCall led the Bulldogs with a career game, completing 23 of 29 passes for 352 yards and six TDs. McCall threw seven TDs all of last season.

The Bulldogs finished with 599 total yards, including 247 rushing. McCall had 95 rushing, while Colten Swanson led the Bulldogs with 100 yards and two TDs. Rylan Stringfellow was the top receiver, catching 11 passes for 179 yards.

Bridgeport had 516 yards, including 395 passing. Quarterback Mason McComis completed 29 of 42 passes for 384 yards, four TDs and no interceptions.

GRAHAM 41, BOWIE 22

GRAHAM – Ty Thompson threw for four touchdowns and ran for two more, sparking Graham’s 41-22 victory against Bowie in non-district action Friday at Newton Field.

Three of Thompson’s TD throws went to Peyton Kinman, including a 44-yard connection in the first quarter. The duo hooked up for a pair of 18-yard TDs in the second quarter, helping spot Graham a 27-14 lead at the half.

Thompson finished 11 of 17 for 185 yards and no interceptions. Kinman caught four passes for 86 yards. Brayden Riggins had six receptions for 78 yards and a TD. Rylan Monsey led the Steers on the ground, rushing for 124 yards on 11 carries.

Quarterback Brody Armstrong had a solid varsity debut for Bowie, completing 21 of 39 passes for 158 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for 64 yards and two TDs on 24 carries.

Graham (1-0) travels to play Springtown (0-1), while Bowie (0-1) goes on the road to Bridgeport (0-1) next week.

VERNON 56, CITY VIEW 0

Eight different players found the end zone for the Vernon Lions in a 56-0 dismantling of City View on Friday at Veterans Stadium. The first ever meeting between the two programs was decidedly in Vernon’s favor.

Ty Scott, C.J. Johnson, Case Fleming, Kale Sherrill, Jevon Fanner, Jayden Robledo, Hyme Guzman and Brady Holt each crossed the goal line for the Lions, who scored 14 points in every quarter.

The Lions rushed for 312 yards. Johnson led them with 80 on six carries, while Scott had 71 on two carries. This was the most points Vernon has scored in a game since a 60-32 victory against Krum in Week 11 of 2017.

City View struggled to move the ball, finishing with 109 total yard, including 76 on 12 of 25 passing for quarterback Jacobe Monroe.

City View (0-1) heads across the border to battle Frederick, while Vernon (1-0) hosts Gainesville (0-1) next week.

HENRIETTA 36, WINDTHORST 7

HENRIETTA – What Garrett Blevins may have lacked for efficiency in his first start at quarterback, he made up for with big plays.

The junior signal-caller led Henrietta to a 36-7 season-opening victory against Windthorst at Bearcat Stadium on Friday. It’s Henrietta’s first win against Windthorst since 2017.

Blevins completed just 5 of 17 passes but made them count for 142 yards and two touchdowns. He also led the Bearcats with 97 rushing yards and a score on 11 carries. Brady Lyde was Blevins’ top target, catching three passes for 102 yards, including a 63-yard TD late in the third quarter.

Windthorst was held to 153 total yards, including 120 rushing on 38 carries. Clay Hoff and Logan Cope each ran for 57 yards with Hoff scoring the Trojans’ lone TD on a 1-yard in the third quarter.

Windthorst (0-1) is idle next week, while Henrietta (1-0) travels to play Millsap.

BRECKENRIDGE – Breckenridge proved too much for Jacksboro for the second straight season, handing the Tigers a 42-13 loss Friday at Buckaroo Stadium. Breckenridge led 35-0 in the fourth quarter before Jacksboro put points on the board.

Stats are yet to be reported for this game.

Jacksboro (0-1) hosts Boyd next Friday in the first game at Tiger Stadium since a tornado damaged it in the spring.

NOCONA 41, ERA 22

NOCONA – Brady McCasland and Johnathan Stone combined for 305 rushing yards and four touchdowns in Nocona’s 41-22 victory against Era on Friday at Jack Crain Stadium.

McCasland led the charge with 171 rushing yards, including a 97-yard TD in the third quarter. Stone rushed for 134 yards with TD runs of 6 and 4 yards.

As a team, Nocona rushed for 412 yards. McCasland was also 3 for 8 passing for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Nocona (1-0) tries to stay undefeated next week when it hosts Quanah (0-1).

OLNEY – Braulio Flores returned two interceptions for touchdowns, spearheading Olney’s stellar defensive effort in a 31-0 victory against Alvord at Cub Stadium on Friday.

Flores had a 55-yard interception return in the first quarter, spotting Olney a 13-0 lead, then put the team’s final points on the board with a 60-yard return in the fourth.

Gatlin Guy and Colin Mason each had TD runs for the Cubs.

QUANAH – Braden Ritchey picked up his first win as a head coach Friday, leading Archer City to a 35-12 victory against former district rival Quanah at Indian Stadium.

Freshman quarterback Joe Castles had an impressive freshman debut, completing 14 of 22 passes for 216 yards, four TDs and two interceptions. Kole Stovall caught two of those TDs, while McKinnen Beaver and Chance Warren had one score each.

Elijah Jackson led the Wildcats with 28 rushing yards and a TD on seven carries.

Quanah featured a solid ground attack in the losing effort, with Michael Garza rushing for a team-high 87 yards and two TDs on 17 carries. Jason Sanchez had 76 rushing on 17 carries. Garza and Aidan Cerna each had interceptions on defense.

Archer City (1-0) looks to stay undefeated when it hosts Anson (0-1), while Quanah (0-1) visits Nocona (1-0) next week.

SACRED HEART 34, PETROLIA 14

MUENSTER – Ryan Swirsczynski had his way throwing and running against Petrolia in a 34-14 victory for Muenster Sacred Heart on Friday.

The Sacred Heart quarterback threw two touchdowns and rushed for three more, accounting for most of the Tigers’ 287 total yards.

Petrolia finished with 189 yards, including 115 on the ground. Caleb Henderson rushed for 57 yards and a TD, while quarterback Gage Bowers added 53 yards and a score on eight carries.

Petrolia (0-1) hosts Olney (1-0) next week.

Sandoval had two rushing touchdowns and returned an interception for a score. Kash Johnson led Santo with 108 rushing yards and a TD. Hutson Thornton complete 4 of 5 passes for 81 yards and two TDs.

SEYMOUR – Brayden Loyd and Keegan Gilbreath alternated at quarterback to fair results in Seymour’s 47-22 victory against Anson on Friday at Fair Park Stadium. Dan Loyd celebrated his first win as head coach of the Panthers.

Brayden Loyd threw the ball more, completing 15 of 22 passes for 120 yards, two TDs and an interception. Meanwhile, Gilbreath played multiple roles, throwing for 127 yards and two TDs on 4 of 9 passing, rushing for 100 yards and two TDs on 10 carries and catching four passes for 49 yards and a score.

Tabor Wyatt had six catches for 89 yards and two TDs, while David Charo caught three passes for 77 yards and a score.

Isaac Willden had a 20-yard interception return TD for the Seymour defense.

Seymour (1-0) steps up the competition with a visit to Lindsay next week.

MUNDAY 18, MERCY CULTURE 14

BOWIE – Chris Garcia effectively ran Munday’s new spread offense, leading the Moguls to an 18-14 victory against Fort Worth Mercy Culture at Jackrabbit Stadium on Friday. Garcia’s effort awarded Webb Murphy his first win as a head coach.

Garcia completed 15 of 22 passes for 148 yards and an interception but did as much damage on the ground, rushing for 127 yards and two TDs on 12 carries.

Keon Taylor was Garcia’s top receiver with 64 yards on four catches.

Munday (1-0) hosts TLCA-Abilene next week.

SIX-MAN

BENJAMIN 78, MORAN 6

BENJAMIN – Benjamin looked the part of its No. 1 state ranking Friday night, needing two quarters to dispatch Moran, 78-6, at Ben Grill Field.

The Mustangs gained all of their yards on the ground, finishing for 306. Grayson Rigdon rushed for 202 yards on just four carries. Brody White had 40 on two carries.

Moran managed a mere 58 total yards.

NEWCASTLE – Ty Strawbridge found the end zone nine times Friday, leading Newcastle to a 72-42 victory against Ranger at Bobcat Stadium.

Strawbridge rushed for 156 yards and four TDs and passed for 185 yards and three scores. He also caught a 7-yard TD and returned a kickoff 60 yards for a score.

Kenny Jones caught two of Strawbridge’s TD passes and had a 55-yard fumble return TD. Osbaldo Pacheco had a rushing and receiving score.

Newcastle (1-0) hosts Woodson next week.
