AREA FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Burkburnett prevails in triple overtime

DISTRICT 4-2A DI

STAMFORD 22, OLNEY 13

OLNEY – Gatlin Guy and Jovani Rockmore combined for 278 rushing yards, but it wasn’t enough to overcome four turnovers as Olney fell for the first time this season, 22-13, to Stamford in District 4-2A Division I action. Stamford (6-0, 2-0) remains undefeated with Olney (4-1, 0-1) dropping its district opener.

The Cubs had 301 rushing yards with Guy and Rockmore doing most of the damage. Rockmore scored both of the Cubs’ TDs to go with 164 yards on 17 carries. Guy had 114 rushing on 22 carries.

Olney lost three fumbles and threw one interception.

The Cubs play at No. 8 Cisco next week.

DISTRICT 7-2A DII

HASKELL 42, PETROLIA 20

PETROLIA – Trevor Henry rushed for 159 yards and four TDs, leading Haskell to a 42-20 victory against Petrolia in District 7-2A Division II action Friday at Pirate Stadium. Haskell (3-3, 1-1) gets its first district win, while Petrolia (1-5, 1-1) suffers its first 7-2A DII loss.

Haskell led 21-0 before Petrolia got on the board on the final play of the first half when Gage Bowers found Ramsey Hensley for a 5-yard TD pass. Bowers added a 28-yard rushing TD late in the third quarter.

Bowers had his best game throwing the ball, completing 12 of 22 passes for 179 yards, one TD and two interceptions. Caleb Henderson was the top receiver, catching five passes for 76 yards out of the backfield.

Petrolia visits Windthorst next week, while Haskell hosts Munday.

MUNDAY – Munday overcame a 12-point deficit, scoring all of its points in the fourth quarter for a 20-18 victory in District 7-2A Division II action at Scruggs Field. Munday (3-3, 1-1) earns its first district win, while Electra (0-6, 0-2) remains winless.

Electra led 12-0 in the fourth quarter before Munday scored 14 straight for the 2-point advantage. Electra managed to retake the lead briefly, 18-14, but Munday got the final score late in the fourth for the win.

No stats have been reported for this game.

Munday plays at Haskell, while Electra hosts Archer City next week.

NON-DISTRICT

BURKBURNETT 45, ALVARADO 43

ALVARADO – Hunter McCall found Kade Miller in the end zone for the game-winning two-point conversion, lifting Burkburnett to a thrilling 45-43 victory against Alvarado in triple overtime Friday at Charles Head Stadium. The Bulldogs (5-1) continue their strong start to the season, while Alvarado drops to 3-3.

McCall found Rylan Stringfellow in the front corner of the end zone for a 27-yard TD on the final play of regulation, pulling the Bulldogs within a point. Alessio Piscopo split the uprights for the extra point, sending the game to overtime.

Both teams matched each other’s efforts in the first and second overtime periods, meaning the game would be decided by alternating two-point conversion tries.

Alvarado attempted a double pass on their two-point try, but it was intercepted, setting the stage for McCall’s game-winning pass to Miller.

McCall was 25 of 35 for 247 yards, a TD and an interception. He also rushed for 69 yards and four TDs on 16 carries. Stringfellow at 105 receiving on 12 receptions.

Burkburnett held a 497-295 edge in total yards.

The Bulldogs open District 4-4A Division I action next week with a visit to Decatur.

HOLLIDAY 48, SNYDER 14

SNYDER – Holliday remained undefeated with a decisive 48-14 victory against Snyder on Friday at Tiger Stadium. The second-ranked Eagles improve to 5-0 while Snyder falls to 2-4.

No stats have been reported from this game.

Holliday opens District 7-3A Division II play next week, hosting Valley View.

BREMOND 54, WINDTHORST 21

ALEDO – Bremond stuffed Windthorst’s run game Friday night, and the eight-ranked Tigers blasted Windthorst, 54-21, at Bearcat Stadium. Bremond (5-0) remains undefeated while Windthorst falls to 2-3.

The Trojans were held to just 37 rushing yards on 30 carries. Meanwhile, Bremond finished with 580 total yards, including 318 rushing on 35 carries.

Logan Cope had a hand in all of Windthorst’s TDs, rushing for one and passing for two.

The Trojans return to District 7-2A Division II action next week, hosting Petrolia.

KNOX CITY – Knox City needed just two quarters to dispose of Saint Jo on Friday, executing the mercy-rule with a 52-0 victory at Greyhound Field. Knox City improves to 4-2, while Saint Jo (5-1) suffers its first loss.

Knox City quarterback Bryson Callaway threw three TD passes to three different receivers. Devon Guillory led Knox City’s defense with three interceptions.

The Greyhounds host Forestburg next week.

King’s high-yardage totals only led to two touchdowns – one passing and one rushing. Gaiden Turner had 103 receiving yards.

Newcastle visits Bluff Dale next week.
