DISTRICT 3-3A DIVISION I

IOWA PARK 28, VERNON 25

IOWA PARK – Parker Allen and CJ Miser scored touchdowns three minutes apart in the fourth quarter Friday night, providing the difference in Iowa Park’s 28-25 victory over Vernon.

It’s the second straight win for the Hawks (3-5, 2-1), who needed an overtime field goal to edge Bowie last week. They’re now tied with Vernon (5-3, 2-1) for second place in District 3-3A Division I behind Jim Ned.

Evan Dietrichson’s 16-yard touchdown catch midway through the third quarter put IP ahead 17-14, but Vernon’s TJ Thomas scored his second touchdown of the game with 10:06 remaining to put the visitors back up top.

Allen busted loose for a 41-yard touchdown to regain the Hawks’ lead and Miser, who’s missed most of the season, extended the advantage to 28-17 with a 21-yard run with 4:12 to play.

Vernon’s Case Fleming caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Kale Sherrill with 2:48 left, but that would be the last of the scoring in the fourth.

Iowa Park travels to Clyde next week, while Vernon will look to force a tie at the top of 3-3A when it heads to Jim Ned.
