DISTRICT 4-4A DIVISION I

DECATUR 55, BURKBURNETT 21

DECATUR – Devin James and Nate Palmer each topped 100 rushing yards, spurring Decatur to a 55-21 victory over Burkburnett in District 4-4A Division I action Friday at Eagle Stadium. Decatur (4-3, 1-0) increases its win streak to four games, while Burkburnett (5-2, 0-1) has a four-game win streak snapped.

James finished with 130 rushing yards and two TDs on 23 carries, while Palmer had 109 yards and three TDs on 14 carries. Decatur had 283 rushing yards total.

Decatur led 41-0 before Burkburnett got on the scoreboard on a 61-yard pass form Hunter McCall to Kellan Anderosn. The Eagles led 48-7 at halftime.

Burkburnett finished with 312 yards, including 154 passing for McCall. The area’s leading passer threw two TDs, including one to Elijah Maldonado, who also scored on a 19-yard run with 16 seconds left.

Burkburnett is open next week, while Decatur visits Wichita Falls High at 7 p.m. Friday.

BOWIE – Jim Ned pulled away from Bowie with 28 second-half points Friday night, claiming a 48-18 victory in a District 3-3A Division I opener.

The Indians (3-3, 1-0) led 20-12 at halftime, but expanded their lead with Brayden Shipman’s 20-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and then scored three times in the fourth.

Brycen Park scored both of Bowie’s first-half touchdowns on a 4-yard catch and a 43-yard interception return. Jaden Hopson added a 61-yard TD run late in the game.

Shipman led the Indians with 124 rushing yards and two scores, while Bowie’s Brody Armstrong threw for 132 yards in the loss. The Jackrabbits (0-6, 0-1) will look to even up their district record next week against Iowa Park.

VERNON 42, CLYDE 28

CLYDE – CJ Johnson started Vernon’s ground attack Friday, and TJ Thomas put the finishing touches on it, sparking the Lions’ 42-28 victory against Clyde in District 3-3A Division I action at Clyde Bulldog Stadium. The Lions are now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in district, while Clyde (4-2, 0-1) has a four-game win streak ended.

Johnson scored the Lions’ first two TDs on runs of 58 and 9 yards in the first quarter, and the Lions held a slim 14-13 advantage heading into the second. The game was tied at 21-21 at halftime.

Vernon scored three straight TDs to open the second half, including a 61-yard run by Kale Sherrill in the third quarter. Thomas added scoring runs of 2 and 66 yards in the fourth quarter, putting the game away.

The Lions finished with 395 rushing yards on 41 carries. Individual offensive stats have not been reported for this game.

Vernon hosts Breckenridge in a key district game next week.

JACKSBORO 53, EASTLAND 6

JACKSBORO – Lando Belcher threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for two scores as Jacksboro overwhelmed Eastland 53-6 Friday night in a District 5-3A Division II opener.

The Mavericks answered Jacksboro’s first touchdown with a score to make it 8-6, but the ensuing PAT was blocked and Kaleem Howard returned it for two points. The game was never close again as the Tigers (4-2, 1-0) produced a 40-point first half.

Belcher found Cannon Valenzuela six times for 115 yards and two touchdowns and also hooked up with Howard five times for 103 yards and a score. The junior quarterback started the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown run and finished off the Mavericks (0-6, 0-1) with a 9-yard TD.

Baylor Laake added 43 rushing yards and a touchdown for Jacksboro, which hosts Comanche next week in a crucial district matchup.

HOLLIDAY – Jaxx Johnson and Tyrese Polite found the end zone twice, and Holliday cruised to a 55-0 victory against Valley View in District 6-3A Division II action Friday at Eagle Stadium. The Eagles (6-0, 1-0) remain undefeated, while Valley View (2-4, 0-1) suffers a second straight loss.

Holliday had 244 rushing yards, scoring six times on the ground. Polite finished with 48 yards on six carries, while Johnson had 43 on seven carries. Collin Hays led the Eagles with 73 yards on nine carries. Steele Skinner and Parker Jones had TD runs.

The Eagles led 27-0 after the first quarter and 41-0 at halftime.

Holliday hosts rival Henrietta next week.

CISCO – Olney’s ground game was productive Friday, but it didn’t produce enough points. Cisco used a bend-but-don’t-break defense and explosive offense to defeat the Cubs, 34-15, in District 4-2A Division I action at Chesley Field. The loss keeps Olney (4-2, 0-2) winless in district play, while Cisco (6-1, 3-0) remains undefeated in 4-2A DI action.

While the Cubs produced 349 rushing yards, they were nearly outdone by Cisco quarterback Hunter Long, who rushed for 328 yards and four TDs on just 17 carries. Long averaged 19.3 yards per carry.

Olney got 156 rushing and a TD from Gatlin Guy, while Jovani Rockmore rushed for 122 yards on 12 carries.

The Cubs look for their first district win next week when they host Anson.

DISTRICT 6-2A DIVISION I

NOCONA 25, WHITEWRIGHT 18

WHITEWRIGHT – Johnathan Stone scored from 2 yards out with 1:49 remaining, keeping Nocona’s unbeaten season alive with a 25-18 victory Friday night over Whitewright.

The 6-2A Division I opener was set up for a tight finish when the Tigers’ Jackson Evans caught a 6-yard touchdown pass with 6:13 left, but missed the PAT that could have given Whitewright its first lead.

Michael Wetmore scored twice for the Indians (6-0, 2-0). His 12-yard run opened the scoring and his 24-yard touchdown put Nocona up 18-6 midway through the third quarter. Stone led the Indians with 93 yards, while Wetmore added 80.

Brady McCasland completed 15 of 24 passes for 183 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown pass to Luke Fuller in the second quarter. Kenneth York scored twice for Whitewright (2-4, 0-1).

The Indians will look to stay undefeated next week at Trenton.

MEMPHIS – Memphis pulled away in the second half of a 26-14 victory against Quanah in District 2-2A Division II action Friday at George Berry Memorial Stadium. Quanah drops to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in district, while Memphis improves to 4-2 and 1-0.

Quanah seeks its first district win next week at Clarendon.

WINDTHORST 30, PETROLIA 18

WINDTHORST – Logan Cope threw for three touchdown passes and ran for another, helping Windthorst stay unbeaten in district with a 30-18 home victory over Petrolia Friday night.

The Trojans (3-3, 2-0) used a 9-0 spurt in the fourth quarter to create some breathing room as Kolby Teakell caught a 13-yard touchdown pass with 9:44 left and the defense added a safety.

Cope also opened the scoring with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Teakell and also connected with Brayden Berend for a 25-yard TD in the second quarter that put Windthorst up 21-12 at halftime.

The senior signal caller finished 15 of 26 passing for 166 yards while leading the Trojans with 85 rushing yards. Tyler Camacho added 83 rushing yards in the win.

Petrolia (1-6, 1-2) found success on the ground as Gage Bowers rushed for 188 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Caleb Henderson and Skylar Davis also found the end zone in the loss.

Windthorst travels to Munday next week in district action, while Petrolia has a bye.

ELECTRA – Archer City totaled 459 yards Friday, rolling to a 54- 6 victory against District 7-2A Division II foe Electra at Tiger Stadium. Archer City (4-2, 2-0) remains undefeated in district play, while Electra (0-7, 0-3) is still looking for its first win of the season.

The Wildcats rushed for 316 yards, with Elijah Jackson leading with 75 yards on six carries. Gunner Smith, who typically plays on the offensive line, had 70 rushing yards and two TDs on three carries. Kline Mayo and Sam Machtolff also ran for touchdowns.

Archer City quarterback Joe Castles completed 7 of 17 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Both scoring throws were caught by Chance Warren, who finished with 119 yards on six receptions.

Electra stats were not reported.

Electra visits Seymour, while Archer City hosts Haskell in district action next week.

HASKELL 58, MUNDAY 6

HASKELL – Munday was on the wrong side of a rout Friday as rival Haskell dominated, 58-6, in a District 7-2A Division II matchup at Indian Field. Haskell (4-3, 2-1) earns a second straight district win, while Munday (3-4, 1-2) falls below .500 for the season.

Chris Garcia was responsible for all but five yards of Munday’s offensive production, passing for 59 yards and a TD and rushing for 42 yards on 12 carries. Darrius McDaniel caught Garcia’s passing TD.

Munday hosts Windthorst in district action next week.

NON-DISTRICT

KNOX CITY 65, FORESTBURG 0

FORESTBURG – Knox City finished up non-district Friday night by overwhelming Forestburg for a 65-0 road victory that was over at halftime.

The Greyhounds’ defense held the Longhorns to 4 total yards, while Caleb Arrieta led the way offensively with 100 rushing yards and four touchdowns on only five carries.

Tristin Baxter rushed for two scores, while Bryson Callaway threw two touchdown passes to Devin Guillory and added a 39-yard touchdown run.

Both Knox City (4-3) and Forestburg (0-6) will head into a bye before starting district on Oct. 21.
