CLASS 4A

GRAHAM 59, MINERAL WELLS 14

GRAHAM – Ty Thompson threw for six touchdowns, and the Graham offense registered 505 yards in a 59-14 dismantling of Mineral Wells on Friday at Ram Stadium. Both teams moved to 3-2 on the season as a result.

Thompson had three TDs in the first quarter, including two to sophomore receiver Peyton Kinman. Thompson completed 16 of 26 passes for 203 yards and no interceptions. He added a 2-yard TD run in the third quarter.

Kinman finished with three TDs along with 65 yards on five receptions. Rylan Monsey caught two TDs from Thompson and led the Steers with 129 rushing yards and a TD on 10 carries. Michael Young rushed for 109 yards on 12 attempts.

The Steers enter a short week of preparation, visiting Hirschi at 7 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Stadium.

JACKSBORO – Jacksboro’s defense held Henrietta to 93 total yards and forced five turnovers in a 41-0 victory Friday at Tiger Stadium. It’s the first loss of the season for Henrietta (4-1), while Jacksboro improves to 3-2.

Meanwhile, the Tigers churned out 342 yards, including 209 rushing. Quarterback Lando Belcher led with 91 yards and a score while completing 5 of 15 passes for 133 yards and four TDs. Luke Sams rushed for 81 yards and a TD. Kaleem Howard caught three passes for 81 yards and two TDs.

Quarterback Garrett Blevins led Henrietta with 45 rushing yards and 21 passing but completed just 2 of 11 attempts with two interceptions.

Both teams are open next week before starting district play Oct. 7.

BOWIE – Seth Taylor threw, rushed and caught touchdowns Friday, leading Childress to a 49-22 victory against Bowie on Friday at Jackrabbit Stadium. Childress moves to 2-3 on the season while Bowie (0-5) is still searching for its first victory.

Taylor completed 6 of 7 passes for 100 yards, caught three passes for 41 yards and rushed for 32 yards on 11 carries. Dareon Mathis had 123 rushing and two TDs.

Bowie was held to 230 yards, including 178 passing. Brody Armstrong accounted for all of those air yards, completing 21 of 35 passes for two TDs. He also rushed for a 13-yard score.

Bowie is open next week before hosting Jim Ned to start District 3-3A Division I play Oct. 7.

CITY VIEW 49, ABILENE TLCA 0

City View scored on its first play from scrimmage, and the rout was on in a 49-0 victory against Abilene TLCA on Friday at Veterans Field. It’s the Mustangs (1-4) first win of the season, with TLCA (0-5) remaining winless.

Jacobe Monroe threw a quick wide receiver screen to Kendrick Gibson Jr. on the Mustangs’ first offensive play. Gibson turned it into a 65-yard TD just 15 seconds into the game.

The Mustangs also scored on their second play from scrimmage, but it was called back due to a penalty. Jeremiah Durham found the end zone on a 20-yard TD run two plays later.

Monroe found Desmond Whiteside for a 31-yard score, giving the Mustangs a 21-0 lead with 3:40 left in the first.

The Mustangs blew TLCA off the line of scrimmage on a 7-yard TD run by Ki’Auntre Gresham, then their defense added a TD for a 35-0 halftime advantage.

Malachi Williams added a 32-yard TD run in the third quarter, and Jaleel Thomas capped the scoring on a 34-yard pass from Javi Ortiz in the fourth.

City View is open next week before starting District 6-3A Division I play at Henrietta on Oct. 7.

CLASS 2A

NOCONA 37, VALLEY VIEW 34

NOCONA – Jonathan Stone rushed for a career-high 219 yards, and Nocona held off a fourth-quarter comeback bid by Valley View for a 37-34 victory Friday at Jack Crain Stadium. The Indians (5-0) remain undefeated, while Valley View falls to 2-3.

Nocona led 37-20 after Arturo Garcia made a 24-yard field goal with 7:10 left in the game. Valley View quarterback Tyson Price had two short TD runs, with the second pulling the Eagles within 37-34 with 2:36 remaining.

On the ensuing possession, Nocona held the ball until there were just 33 seconds left in the game, but an interception by Wyatt Huber set Valley View up at its own 45. The game essentially ended when Nocona’s Luke Fuller picked off a deep throw at the Indian 10.

The Indians had 410 total yards, including 321 rushing. Stone averaged nearly 10 yards a carry, scoring three TDS, including an 89-yard run in the third quarter.

The Indians are open next week before starting District 6-2A Divsion I action at Whitewright on Oct. 7.

WINDTHORST 26, HASKELL 20 (OT)

HASKELL – Logan Coper rushed for three touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime, sparking Windthorst’s 26-20 victory against Haskell in District 7-2A Division II action Friday at Indian Stadium. The Trojans (2-2, 1-0) have won two straight, while Haskell drops to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in district.

Haskell’s Trevor Henry scored on a 3-yard run with 2:48 left in regulation, sending the game to overtime. Windthorst had the extra period’s first possession, and Cope capped it with a 3-yard run. The Trojans knocked down Haskell’s fourth-down pass on the final play of its overtime possession.

The Trojans only had 289 total yards and had to overcome four turnovers, including three lost fumbles. Cope accounted for most of the production, completing 18 of 29 passes for 159 yards, a TD and an interception. He also rushed for 34 yards. Clay Hoff had 96 rushing on 22 carries.

Henry paced the Indians, rushing for 137 yards and all three of their TDs on 24 carries.

Windthorst plays a non-district neutral-site game against Bremond, while Haskell visits Petrolia in 7-2A DII action next week.

SEYMOUR – Keegan Gilbreath and Brayden Loyd combined to throw for eight touchdowns in Seymour’s 71-0 obliteration of Munday in District 7-2A Division II action Friday at Fair Park Stadium. The Panthers are now 4-1 overall and 1-0 in district, while Munday is 2-3 and 0-1.

Seymour’s quarterback rotation continued to be fruitful with Gilbreath and Loyd combining for 308 yards. Loyd was 11 of 14 for 138 yards and five TDs, while Gilbreath completed 10 of 11 throws for 170 yards and three TDs.

Seven different receivers found the end zone for the Panthers, including junior Slade Thompson who got there twice. Tabor Wyatt, Levi Bourland, Brason Zeissel, Isaac Willden, Christian Shelton and CJ Fobbs each scored once.

Gavin Drysdale had a 41-yard TD run, while senior Jontai Fobbs led the Panthers on the ground with 65 rushing yards.

Wyatt also returned an interception 51 yards for a score.

Both teams continue district play next week with Seymour visiting Archer City, and Munday hosting Electra.

PETROLIA 34, ELECTRA 7

ELECTRA – Caleb Henderson rushed for five touchdowns, and Petrolia nabbed its first win of the season Friday, defeating Electra, 34-7, in District 7-2A Division II action at Tiger Stadium. The Pirates are now 1-4 for the season and 1-0 in district. Electra (0-5, 0-1) is still looking for its first win.

Henderson had TD runs of 3, 5, 3, 36 and 42 yards, finishing with 159 rushing on 21 carries. The Petrolia defense stymied Electra’s offensive attack, holding the Tigers to 117 yards.

Both teams continue district play next week with Petrolia hosting Haskell and Electra visiting Munday.

HAMLIN – A pair of missed points after touchdown attempts proved costly in Quanah’s 14-12 loss to Hamlin on Friday at Piper Stadium. Hamlin improves to 4-1 on the year, while Quanah falls to 1-4.

Quanah is open next week before starting District 2-2A Division II play at Memphis on Oct. 7.

KNOX CITY 48, CROWELL 30

CROWELL – Tristin Baxter and Caleb Arrieta combined for five rushing TDs, and Knox City handed rival Crowell a 48-30 loss Friday at Dick Todd Field. Knox City (3-2) moves back above .500, while Crowell drops to 1-4.

Crowell scored 24 points in the second quarter, keeping pace with Knox City for two quarters and trailing 28-24 at halftime. The Wildcats only found the end zone once in the second half.

Knox City’s Tristin Baxter had his best game this season, rushing for 151 yards and three TDs. Arrieta had 57 yards and two scores.

Austin Hernandez paced the Wildcats, rushing for 165 yards and three TDs.

Knox City hosts Saint Jo, and Crowell visits Valley next week.

VERNON – Ty Strawbridge had a hand in five touchdowns, leading Newcastle to a 67-22 victory against Northside on Friday at Indian Stadium. Newcastle moves to 3-1 with Northside falling to 2-3. The game ended in the third quarter on account of the 45-point mercy rule.

Strawbridge had 58 rushing yards and two TDs, 53 passing and two TDs and 38 receiving plus a score. Isaac King added 61 rushing yards and three TDs. Kenny Jones threw for one TD and caught another. Gaiden Tucker returned a kickoff for a score along with a receiving TD.

Northside’s stats were not reported.

Newcastle visits Aspermont, and Northside hosts Forestburg next week.
