Area girls basketball roundup for Dec. 2: Centerville takes down Hanson in season opener

Dec. 3—CENTERVILLE, S.D. — Hanson jumped out to a nine-point edge after the first quarter, but Centerville stormed back to take a halftime lead and never looked back on the way to a 51-42 win in a season opener for both sides on Friday night.

Centerville (1-0) was led by Lillie Eide, who poured in a game-high 19 points to go with eight rebounds, two assists and five steals, while Thea Gust added 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and one block. Bailey Hansen chipped in eight points, nine rebounds, two assists and three steals for the Tornadoes, who play at Canistota on Dec. 6.

For Hanson (0-1), Annalyse Weber posted team-bests with eight points, six rebounds and three steals. Erin Dewald and Kylie Haiar scored seven and six points, respectively, as Karlie Goergen put up five points and three rebounds and Eliza Oltmanns had four points and four rebounds. The Beavers are at Ethan for their next action on Dec. 10.

CANISTOTA — Deubrook Area staked itself to a 15-4 advantage after one quarter and shut out Canistota in the second quarter on its way to a season-opening road win on Friday night.

Delaney Pedersen led all scorers with 11 points and two assists, with Ellie Koenig adding eight points, three assists and three steals for the Dolphins (1-0). Miranda Moravetz and Brooke Koppatschek scored six points apiece, as Kadence Bowne grabbed a team-high six rebounds. The Dolphins are on the road at De Smet on Dec. 9.

For Canistota (0-1), Natalie Becker posted team-highs with four points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. Hannah Hoffman scored three points on the lone 3-point field goal make for the Hawks and also had four rebounds and one steal. The Hawks were held to 5-of-33 (15%) from the field and had 27 turnovers. Canistota hosts Centerville on Dec. 6.
