Ashland Christmas Parade

The Ashland Christmas Parade will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. The theme is "My Favorite Christmas Song." The route will begin at Claremont Avenue/King Road/College Avenue, proceed north on Claremont Avenue, turn east on Main Street and continue on Main Street until Union Street. Tree lighting and fireworks will follow the parade.

TubaChristmas

TubaChristmas, a concert of holiday favorites, will be making its return to Ashland University this Saturday, Dec. 4. The performance, free and open to the public, is scheduled to begin at noon at Hugo Young Theatre. Hundreds of TubaChristmas’s take place around the world, giving the oft-neglected tubists, baritones and euphoniums a chance to perform melodies instead of simple basslines and harmonies as they do in most of their ensembles, according to Scott Garlock, professor of music at Ashland and conductor of the event. Santa and his reindeer at the Cheesebarn

Visit Santa at Grandpa's Cheesebarn this Sunday, Dec. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. Santa's reindeer will be on-site along with the elves' miniature ponies and carriage. There will be Christmas music, candy canes and prizes for kids. Hot chocolate from Grandpa's Café will be $1 and Grandpa's elves will have a fresh batch of homemade candy cane crunch ice cream ready to go as well.

Ohio Theatre production

The third annual Music & Laughter Christmas Extravaganza, “A Hometown Christmas” will be performed at Ohio Theatre in Loudonville for one night only on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. Tickets for reserved seating are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for children ages 4 to 18 years old. Kids 3 years old and younger are admitted for free. Tickets are for reserved seating and can be purchased through the theatre website at www.theohiotheatre.com or by calling the Box Office at 419-994-3750.

A Yuletide Tour of the Brinton House

A Yuletide Tour of the Brinton House, 603 Center St, Ashland, will take place 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 and noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 12. Come see the Brinton House decked out for Christmas in all its Victorian splendor. Also see the renovation process in the 1850s section of the house. Artisans will have their wares for you to purchase that perfect gift or stocking stuffer. There will be no charge but donations will be accepted at the door. All donations will go to the Anne Von Kamp Parsons Memorial Scholarship Fund. We are close to having enough funds to secure an endowment account. Next year we hope to support another charity.

Towne and Country Players

The Towne and Country Players, Inc. will be hosting its 56th annual Christmas event on Sunday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. in the Norwalk First United Methodist Church, 60 W. Main St. This year’s Concert is titled “Christmas in Brass” by the internationally known Tower Brass Quintet. Tickets are $12 in advance/at the door for all ages. Dr. Charles Saenz, associate dean of music and professor of trumpet at Bowling Green State University, is coordinating the appearance with T & C President Neil Miller. The concert is age appropriate but children age 4 and younger are discouraged from attending due to the nature of the Program. Tickets will go on sale at the Church beginning at 2:15 p.m. with doors opening at 2:3 p.m. Pre-cmusic will be provided by pianist Dennis Stoneham, Norwalk. Ashland Regional Ballet's 'The Nutcracker'

Ashland Regional Ballet will present its 30th annual presentation of "The Nutcracker" from Friday, Dec. 17 through Sunday, Dec. 19 at Ashland High School's Archer Auditorium.

Performance times are:

  • Friday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

  • Saturday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m.

  • Saturday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m.

  • Sunday, Dec. 19 at 2:30 p.m.

Cost is $15 to $22 depending on seat location and virtual options Each of the four performances will have spaced out seating to allow for distancing with COVID seating restrictions. In celebration of the 30th annual "Nutcracker" there will be an alumni dancer and alumni parent reception at 5 p.m. between the Saturday shows. Alumni may purchase the "Add On Reception" ticket during checkout to attend. Tickets are only purchased only through Eventbrite.

Senior Art Exhibition

The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University is hosting a Senior Art Exhibition through Saturday, Dec. 18, featuring the capstone experience for graduating art students Ricki Dénes and Alexis Stanley. This fall’s exhibition includes paintings, illustrations, printmaking and ceramics from Dénes and Stanley.

The Coburn Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and noon to 4 p.m. on weekends. Gallery admission is free and open to the public. Community Christmas celebration

"The real meaning of Christmas" will be presented live outdoors with a live nativity and the story of Christmas using a combination of animals, scripture reading, song and candlelight. This community Christmas celebration will take place 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23 at the Savannah Ball Fields, which are located on state Route 545 in Savannah. This event is free of charge with hot chocolate and candy canes. There will be handicap parking available.

Polar Bear Dip

The annual Polar Bear Dip at Charles Mill Lake will be 3 p.m. Jan. 1. Take a dip and get Cold for a Cure with a $25 donation. Participants also get a T-Shirt. Follow the event on Facebook at Polar-Bear-Dip-Cold-for-the-Cure. Benefits Ashland County-Mid Ohio Relay For Life.

Kingwood Center Storybook Trail

The Storybook Trail at Kingwood Center Gardens is featuring a new book titled "Good Night, Bat! Good Morning, Squirrel!" This delightful picture book from Geisel Honor-winning author-illustrator Paul Meisel tells the story of a lonely bat who thinks he has found a perfect home — until he discovers that it's already inhabited by a persnickety squirrel. Squirrel does her best to oust her unexpected guest by leaving notes, but Bat misunderstands and thinks she is happy about the new guest and wants to be friends. Friendship eventually blooms as they find common ground despite humorous miscommunications and outward differences.

The Storybook Trail is open during regular winter garden hours, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and is located along the Nature Trail that begins at the Peacock Playhouse. General admission is $5 for 13 years and older; admission is free for children 12 years and younger, and for Kingwood members.

Life of Christ tour

BibleWalk's Life of Christ tour will be free in December. The Mansfield wax museum at 500 Tingley Ave. in Mansfield is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. For more information, visit https://www.biblewalk.us/

Ohio State University at Mansfield exhibition

The Ohio State University at Mansfield will feature ceramics by Maxwell Holden, and paintings by Hannah Parrett throughout November in the Pearl Conard Art Gallery located on campus. The exhibition, Looking Through the Horizon to Find What We Lost, will be on display 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday through Dec. 4. Both Columbus-based artists are recent alumni of The Ohio State University Art Department’s Master of Fine Arts program.
