AREA HAPPENINGS: May Fiesta, Living History Cemetery Walk and 'Annie Jr.'

May Fiesta

Ashland High School's May Fiesta choir concert will be 7 p.m. Saturday, May 14 and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15 in Archer Auditorium at Ashland High School. All tickets are $5 a person. They are sold at the AHS main office and three businesses in Ashland: Farm & Home Hardware, Irwin's Office Supply and Mike's Music. They also will be at the door, which opens an hour before each performance.

2022 Living History Cemetery Walk

The Ashland County Historical Society and The Cleo Redd Fisher Museum are excited to be hosting the 2022 Living History Cemetery Walk. This one day event will take place at the Loudonville Cemetery on Sunday, May 15, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Guided tours will begin promptly at 1 p.m., with groups leaving every 10 minutes. The last tour will depart at 3 p.m.

Tour guides will escort guests through the route where many of Ashland County’s historical figures will come to life while being portrayed by local talents. Each of the five characters will capture your imagination by telling stories about their lives in Ashland County and how they were part of history. Our portrayers will be in period piece attire to further heighten the experience with an aura of authenticity.

'Annie Jr.' by Kroc Kids Community Theatre

The Salvation Army Ashland Kroc Center’s Kroc Kids Community Theatre will perform its production of "Annie Jr." from May 13 through 15." Annie Jr." is a play adapted from the Tony Award-winning play "Annie," a cherished American story of a young orphan girl searching for her family. The Kroc Kids Community Theatre, with young people ranging from third grade to eighth grade, will perform Friday May 13 at 7 p.m., Saturday May 14 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday May 15 at 3 p.m. The cast features more than 40 local students. Tickets for "Annie Jr." cost $5 for children and $8 for adults and can be purchased online at www.ashlandkroc.org or in-person at the Kroc Center at 527 E. Liberty St. in Ashland. '1001 Nights' by Mansfield Symphony Chorus

In a masterful finale concert like no other, the Mansfield Symphony celebrates the season and honors the past on Saturday, May 14 at 8 p.m. with “1001 Nights”. The concert will feature the Mansfield Symphony Chorus and special guest vocalists, Heidi Kirschenheiter-Vega (soprano) and Andrew Potter (Bass), on both classic and innovative works that will catch the attention of all music-lovers.

Local author and speaker, Mark Sebastian Jordan, will present a pre-concert symphony chat on the Renaissance Theatre bridge at 7:15 p.m. prior to the concert. During the symphony chat, Mark Sebastian Jordan presents knowledge of the conductors, pieces, and history that will be featured in the following concert that evening. Symphony chat presentations are free to the public.

Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra Spring Concert

The Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra will also be featured at the Renaissance Theatre that same weekend. Under the direction of Stephen Domka, MSYO will return to the Renaissance Theatre Stage to feature its Spring Concert. Sunday May 15 at 3:30 PM.

The Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra presents a spring concert featuring two concerto soloists. Samuel Prinz, Viola will perform the 1st Movement from Anton Hoffmeister’s Viola Concerto in Bb Major. Thomas Secrist, Violin will perform the 1st Movement from Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto in g minor. Other selections performed by the MSYO include: “American West” by Tim Shackleton; “Alpha and Omega” by Soon Hee Newbold; Poet and Peasant Overture by Franz Von Suppe; and selections from “The Bartered Bride” by Bedrich Smetana.

'Shrek the Musical'

The Loudonville Theatre and Arts Committee (LTAC) will perform "Shrek the Musical" for five performances at the Ohio Theatre in downtown Loudonville. Performances are Saturday, June 18 at 7 p.m., Sunday, June 19 at 2 p.m., Friday, June 24 at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 25 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, June 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $10 for students and free for children 4 years old and younger (as long as space is available.) All seats are reserved seating only. Presale tickets are available online at http://www.theohiotheatre.com and at the Ohio Theatre Box Office at 419-994-3750. Remaining tickets will be available at the door beginning an hour before each performance on a first come basis.

Kingwood Center Storybook Trail

The Storybook Trail at Kingwood Center Gardens is featuring the book "Good Night, Bat! Good Morning, Squirrel!" This picture book from Geisel Honor-winning author-illustrator Paul Meisel tells the story of a lonely bat who thinks he has found a perfect home — until he discovers that it's already inhabited by a persnickety squirrel. Squirrel does her best to oust her unexpected guest by leaving notes, but Bat misunderstands and thinks she is happy about the new guest and wants to be friends. Friendship eventually blooms as they find common ground despite humorous miscommunications and outward differences.

The Storybook Trail is open during regular winter garden hours, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and is located along the Nature Trail that begins at the Peacock Playhouse. General admission is $5 for 13 years and older; admission is free for children 12 years and younger, and for Kingwood members.
