Area high school baseball roundup: Gregory County's Ben Witt's walk-off single lifts Gregory County over St. Thomas More, 6-5

Apr. 19—GREGORY — Ben Witt's walk-off single sent Gregory County to a 6-5 high school baseball win over St. Thomas More on Sunday.

Witt also pitched the first 6 2/3 innings, finishing with six strikeouts, five earned runs and scattered nine hits.

Brogan Glover led Gregory County with three hits, while Gunner Stephens finished with two hits. Sawyer Tietgen and Trey Murray each had a hit.

Gregory 12, St. Thomas More 1 (5 innings)

GREGORY — Gregory County racked up 11 hits and picked up a high school baseball win over St. Thomas More on Sunday.

Rylan Peck finished with three hits and drove in two runs. Trey Murray, Sawyer Tietgen and Reed Benter added two hits apiece. Benter knocked in a pair of runs. Lincoln Juracek picked up the win after throwing one inning of relief.

Parkston/Ethan/Tripp 9, Winner/Colome 2

PARKSTON — Parkston/Ethan/Tripp used a seven-run, fourth inning to power past Winner/Colome in high school baseball action on Sunday.

Ty Neugebauer and Logan Van Pelt recorded two hits apiece in the win. Kade Bialas, Jon Akre and Isaak Bialas each posted a hit. Neugebauer and Josh Polreis each drove in two runs. Landon Sudbeck picked the win. He recorded six strikeouts, gave up five hits and two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.

For Winner/Colome, Charley Pravecek and Owen Duffy both logged two hits apiece. Aiden Barfuss and Joey Cole each had a hit. Barfuss took the loss. He gave up three hits, five earned runs and struck out two batters in three innings.

Elk Point-Jefferson 11, Scotland/Menno 1

MENNO — Elk Point-Jefferson's Tyler Goehring drove in four runs, including a three-run homer in a high school baseball win over Scotland/Menno on Sunday. Goehring also struck out 10 batters and gave up one hit in four innings.

EPJ finished with 10 hits, with Jake Gale finishing 3 of 3 and three RBIs.

For Scotland/Menno, Austin Pillsbury and Treyton Sayler each had two hits. Dawson Bietz threw three innings and gave up six hits, seven earned runs and struck out three batters.

McCook 10, Tri-Valley 4

COLTON — Six different players logged a hit as McCook earned a high school baseball win over Tri-Valley on Sunday.

Bobby Koepsell, Braeden Kerkhove, Jacob Wagner, Trey Claussen, Gavin Gordon and Jackson Remmers each had a hit in the win. Gordon drove in three runs, while Koepsell knocked in two runs. Wagner and Claussen also drove in a run.

Kerkhove earned the win after starting 4 2/3 innings, finishing with five strikeouts, four earned runs and scattering six hits.

Baltic 7, WWSSC 5

MADISON — Despite a six-run deficit in the fourth inning, Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central nearly rallied back for win over Baltic on Saturday.

Cooper Hainy went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Blackhawks. Carson Hainy, Gerritt Brandenburg, Coen Harvey and Tyler Kole each had a hit.

The Blackhawks scored four runs in the sixth inning. Cade Mohling and Carson Hainy each had RBIs in the frame.

Mason Schelske took the loss. He went four innings, allowing six runs on four hits and striking out nine.

Chamberlain 10, Winner/Colome 0

CHAMBERLAIN — Joey Cole threw a no-hitter as Winner/Colome picked up a 10-0 win over Hot Springs on Friday. The pitcher surrendered zero runs on zero hits over five innings, striking out 12.

Aiden Barfuss led Winner/Colome Royals Varsity to victory by driving in four runs. Barfuss went 2-for-3 at the plate. Barfuss drove in runs on a single in the first, a single in the second, and a groundout in the fifth.

Winner/Colome Royals Varsity tallied six runs in the second inning. Winner/Colome big bats in the inning were led by singles by Barfuss, Charley Pravecek, and Aaron Gilchrist and a triple by Zach Bohnet.

Winner/Colome had six hits in the game. Gilchrist and Barfuss each racked up multiple hits for Winner/Colome. Barfuss and Gilchrist each collected two hits to lead Winner/Colome.

Parkston/Ethan/Tripp 6, PGDCWLC 4

PARKSTON — Parkston/Ethan/Tripp jumped out to an early lead over Platte/Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake/Corsica and took home a 6-4 victory on Friday.

Parkston/Ethan/Tripp pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. Max Scott pitched Parkston/Ethan/Tripp to victory. Scott went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out 11 and walking one. Kade Bialas threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Bialas recorded the last six outs to earn the save.

Hayes Rabenberg took the loss for Platte/Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake/Corsica. Rabenberg surrendered six runs on four hits over two innings, striking out three.

Scott led Parkston/Ethan/Tripp with two hits in four at bats. Platte/Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake/Corsica collected eight hits on the day. Kelby VanDerWerff and Jaylen Kemp each racked up multiple hits for Platte/Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake/Corsica.
