The host Caney Valley Trojans endured a devastating setback in their hopes of playing for their tourney title.
The Caney (Kan.) Bullpups came on strong in overtime to surprise the Trojans in the opening round.
Daniel Barham piled up 22 points for Caney Valley, including a clutch three-pointer that tied the game in regulation and forced overtime. Gage Grant led the Pups in scoring.

Girls: Caney Valley 62, Riverfield 12
Caney Valley High’s girls’ basketball team made a giant statement Thursday in the opening round of the Caney Valley Invitational.
Topped by Sammi Gilbreath with 19 points, the Lady Trojans thumped Riverfield Day, 62-12, to move into the semifinals.
“We just got rolling early,” Caney Valley head coach Deric Longan said.

Boys: Oklahoma Union 63, Pawhuska jayvee 20
Oklahoma Union opened the Pawhuska tourney with a powerful thrust.
The game also gave Oklahoma Union (11-3) a bounce-back from last week’s loss to Nowata.
Oklahoma Union is ranked No. 4 in the state in Class 2A.

Morrison grabbed the close run in the opening round of the Pawhuska tourney.
Oklahoma Union (8-6) suffered its second-straight loss and its third in its last four games after having won six straight.
