AREA HOOPS WEEKEND: CV, Nowata, OUHS and Pawhuska seize district titles
Following are summaries of some of last weekend's area prep basketball playoff games.

GIRLS: Caney Valley 55, Rejoice Christian 40
On Friday, the Caney Valley Lady Trojans once again made a resonant, thunderous statement.
Sammi Gilbreath drained 21 points to lead the Lady Trojan scoring list, followed by Libby Thompson and Jade Upton with 15 and 13, respectively.
The victory catapults Caney Valley into Thursday’s regional semifinal game at Rejoice Christian.
CV made 17 assists and only six turnovers vs. Rejoice.

BOYS: Varnum 78, Copan 38
Varnum ended Copan’s season at 11-13.
“Eleven wins for us was an achievement,” said first-year Hornet head coach Kolton Stacy. He started three freshmen consistently.
Levi VanSchuyver scored 11 to lead Copan, while Shooter Brewington added eight and Logan Guess scored four.

BOYS: Nowata 46, Wyandotte 43
No team in the area can boast a hotter run than the Ironmen (19-5). Since Jan. 7, they have reeled off a 14-1 record.
Kaleb Bashford scored 17 for Nowata. Yahmarion Cole added 14 points and Skylar Stevens tallied 12. Michael Prince added three.
“Michael Prince made a big three for us late in the game,” Nowata head coach Nathan Smith said. “On the very next play he took a charge.”

GIRLS: Cameron 44, Copan 37
Copan won 10 games and advanced three games deep into the playoffs.
In this game, Jayden Purdum scored eight points and turned in perhaps her best performance all year, said Lady Hornet head coach Kristy Bryan.
Elyzabeth Odum also scored eight, followed by Zoey Secondine with six, Kylee Cobb and Addie Hunter with four each, Kamryn Van with three and Rylee Vanschuyver and Faith Weatherspoon with two apiece.

BOYS: Inola 87, Dewey 62
Inola stampeded to a quick lead. In the second half, Dewey cut the margin down to a single digit.
Colby Miller scored 19 for Dewey, followed by Jace Williams with 14, Ryder Muninger with seven, Zaiden Masters with six, Jeremiah Highsmith with six, Jake VanAtta with three, Clayton Evans with two and Karson Johnson with two.
