CHILDREN’S BOOK DISCUSSION – Columbiana Women’s Club will present “Exploring & Experiencing Children’s Books” with retired educator Pat Tingle on Sept. 25 at 121 N. GOLF OUTING – Aultman College plans its 16th annual Aully’s Open Golf Outing, a nine-hole scramble supporting students, on Sept. 15 at Wilshire Golf Course in Bolivar. New to the event this year is the option for foursomes to play the front nine (for beginners and recreational golfers) or the back nine (for intermediate and advanced golfers). Cost for the outing is $100 per person and includes hot breakfast, lunch, door prizes, team awards and nine holes of golf. All revenue will benefit scholarships for Aultman College students who are pursuing careers in the healthcare field. Individual golfers and participants wishing to play 18 holes are welcome. AHS 1956 – Alliance High School Class of 1956 will meet at 9 a.m. Aug. 15 at Don Pancho’s Tex Mex Cafe, 2105 W. State St. All classmates, friends, spouses are welcome to attend.

BACKPACK GIVEAWAY THANKS – Organizers of the 19th annual Community Backpack Giveaway at Alliance Friends Church announced that they gave out 870 backpacks at Saturday’s events, and served 420 lunches. More than 100 community volunteers helped at the event. Sponsors for the 100% community-sponsored event were Alliance Friends Church; Dymonte Thomas Foundation; Burger Hut; Common Ground Boxing Club; Lisa’s Dream Getaways Travel Agency; Tabernacle Baptist Church; Alliance Education Association; Alliance City Schools; Marlington Local Schools; First Choice Electrical Solutions; Tanner Real Estate; and Pauli Electric. The organizers also thanked Walmart Eye Center for giving free vision exams and Headstart and SPARK for informing the youngsters about their programming.

ROMANIAN FESTIVAL – St. George Romanian Byzantine Cathedral has announced its 15th annual Romanian Festival will run noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at the church, 1123 44th St. NE in Canton. The event will include Romanian folk dancers, Divine Liturgy at noon; Romanian wooden village; games for kids; live music; and traditional Romanian food, pastries and beverages.
