Area news in brief for Dec. 1

CCP SCHOLARSHIP − Alliance-area high school seniors with experience in theater productions in the area are invited to aply for the Carnation City Players Scholarship. Visit carnationcityplayers.org to download an application, which is due April 1. The CCP Scholarship Award is presented annually to a high school senior who has demonstrated creative excellence and exceptional commitment to theater.

BELOIT COUNCIL – Beloit Village Council will meet for two work sessions Monday night at Village Hall. The sessions will be 6 p.m., and the second will start around 6:30 pm.

ALLIANCE MEETINGS – City of Alliance’s Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission will not meet in December. No items were filed for either board’s review.

MAHONING FLU SHOTS – Mahoning County Public Health plans a flu shot clinic from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 7 at its main office at 50 Westchester Drive in Youngstown. No appointments are necessary for the clinic, walk-ins are welcome. The office will bill insurance providers. Those receiving shots should bring insurance cards, driver’s license, and Medicaid and Medicare cards so the cost of the vaccine can be billed. Most private insurances are accepted. Mahoning County Public Health is a Vaccines for Children Program provider and will have limited opportunities for children that are uninsured or underinsured to receive the vaccine free of charge.

‘MUSIC MAN’ – Carnation City Players has announced auditions for its upcoming production of “The Music Man.” Auditions will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 12-13 at Firehouse Theatre in Alliance. Those interested in auditioning should sign up for a time at carnationcityplayers.org. Those auditioning should prepare a musical selection in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided. No a capella. Auditionees should also come prepared to read from the script and learn some choreography. Performances will be Feb. 24-26 and March 3-5. Jay Sigler will be director, with Kim Lewis as music director and Susan Powell Fahey as choreographer.
