WREATH EVENT – Mahoning County Master Gardener volunteers is seeking volunteers to help place wreaths on veterans' graves for the 16th year in a row. The wreaths honor the veterans’ sacrifices and teach younger generations about the high cost of freedom. This year’s Wreaths for Our Veterans ceremony will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Eckis Cemetery, 2381 S. Newton Falls Road in North Jackson. Tax-deductible donations also are being accepted. SOUP SALE – Mile Branch Grange plans its monthly drive-thru soup sale on Dec. 8 at 495 Knox School Road. Cost is $8 per quart. This month’s soups will be chicken noodle and chili. Soup must be ordered by noon Wednesday at 330-821-8023. Soup will be available for pickup from 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 8. It will be packaged and delivered directly to your car ready to heat when you get home. Leave your name, phone number, type of soup and number of quarts and your soup will be waiting for you.

MILLER AVENUE – Alliance City Council will conduct a public hearing to discuss an ordinance to vacate part of Miller Avenue at 6:25 p.m. Jan. 3 at Alliance Area Senior Center, 602 W. Vine St.

CLOTHING COLLECTION – Salem Regional Medical Center is collecting winter hats, gloves and scarves as part of The Brightside Project’s Collection Drive. SRMC will have a community dropoff box inside the front doors of the Main Lobby on the ground floor and in the Cafeteria from Dec. 1-13. Donated items can be dropped off from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. All donated items will be distributed to children ages 16 and younger in Columbiana County. HOLIDAY PROGRAM – Quail Hollow Park, at 13480 Congress Lake Ave. in the Hartville area, will conduct Deck the Hollow from Dec. 9-11 and Dec. 16-20. Events will run 5 to 8:30 p.m. each night. The park and the 40-room Stewart Manor House will be lit up for the holidays. Stark Parks and the Quail Hollow Volunteer Association also will sponsor a lighted walk experience at the 700-acre park. Reservations, for $5 in advance, include a timed entry to view holiday lights and decorated trees, along with a self-guided tour of the historic Manor House and a walk down Santa Lane to say hello to Santa Claus. Tickets also are available at the door for $6. The Quail’s Nest Gift Shop will be open for shopping, and concessions and snacks will be available to purchase. This is an indoor/outdoor event; be sure to dress for the weather. Reservations are available at starkparks.com/deckthehollow.

COVID VACCINE – Alliance City Health Department plans a Moderna COVID-19 vaccination clinic for the updated bi-valent booster from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Dec. 7 at Alliance Area Senior Center, 602 W. Vine. Clinic is by appointment only. Schedule your appointment by contacting our call center at 330-249-1013. Please do not contact the Senior Center or Health Department. This bi-valent booster clinic is for those 18 years of age and older and completion of the primary series of COVID-19 vaccine and 2 months since the last booster.

NO DINNERS – First United Presbyterian Church in Alliance will not conduct pork dinners on Saturdays in December or January. The church’s next dinner will be Feb. 4.

SSWCD MEETING – Stark Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors plans a regular meeting at 8 a.m. Dec. 8 at the USDA Service Center conference room, 2650 Richville Drive SE in Massillon. The meeting is open to the public.

COLUMBIANA TAXES – Columbiana County Auditor’s Office has announced new values for the tax year 2022 are now available for viewing on the auditor’s website. When viewing these new values, search by owner name, parcel or address. Once you find the property, select the history tab, under the first heading toward the top of the page. Look under value history for the year 2022. Top line is the most recent value. Taxes will not be available until later in December.

GIFT TREE – Community members can help families of the Alliance Area Domestic Violence Shelter this holiday season by snagging a tag off the tree at Don Pancho’s Tex-Mex Café on State Street in Alliance. Red tags are for girls’ gifts, and green are for boys’ gifts. Organizers ask that gifts be returned by Dec. 13. Those with questions can call 330-823-7223 or email Rebeccaaadvs@gmail.com.

HOLIDAY EVENT − Alliance Christian Center, 670 W. Main St., plans "A Night Like No Other" from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 18. Billed as a "drive-through Bethlehem," it will include a petting zoo, hot chocolate and cookies, ornament stations for children and a Christmas photo booth. The event is free.
